Barking Spiders
Just seen this Alembic on EBay for nearly £11k. Has anyone come across a bass that tops even this price? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1980-Alembic-Series-II-SSB-Short-Scale-Bass-the-Ultimate-Stanley-bass/174034172591?hash=item28853ebaaf:g:qisAAOSwaPNb6Zzs

itu
Ned Steinberger's prototype is on sale at Reverb now for 32 400 €. First asking was 37 k€. https://reverb.com/item/32333075-alembic-series-ii-walnut This Alembic is priced under 30 k€. http://www.alembic.com/prod/prices.html Ritter is a good brand to hunt for higher prices, so is Auerswald, if you can find one. I know this just a "g-word": https://reverb.com/item/12167937-auerswald-viva-heavy-3-of-10 Of course you can take a look at the bigger side: https://www.isbworldoffice.com/bass-sell.asp One had an asking price of 100 k$. 4000
Ritter: https://www.luxuo.com/the-lux-list/collectibles/bass-guitar.html FWIW, £11k for an Alembic is nowhere near their top end. Their 25th Anniversary was $25,000.00 decades ago. http://www.alembic.com/info/sterling.html

4000
This is only an Alembic Series 1 (not the more expensive Series 2) and is missing plenty of expensive options. https://www.station-musicshop.de/epages/64398533.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/64398533/Products/9692

Hellzero
This one is not badly placed at all : https://www.fodera.com/anthony-jackson-presentation-ii-2/ And I'm a huge fan of the guy himself.

I would argue that it belongs in the Ugliest Guitar thread ( I won't say bass as it has too many strings) 😁

I am not a fan of the asthetic of foderas (I have no idea what they are like to play, I assume they are good), but that one is not actually too bad, as it doesn't have any knobs to be scattered randomly all over the place. But why does that XLR have to be just dumped there like they threw it at a dartboard? I love how ritter put their sockets on the back, it makes so much sense Edited June 16, 2020 by Woodinblack

chris_b
Many years ago I played several very expensive Fodera's at Bass Gear. They were wonderful. You could feel the quality and the tone just oozed out of the speakers. I was very impressed. In spite of being the best I'd ever picked up, the feeling I got after playing those basses, impressive as they were, was that my music and playing was Fender shaped, so my souped up "Fenders" were the best choice for me. Reading reports from Carl Thompson players he builds basses that are unique, very idiosyncratic and of very high quality.

I think they look way better than a lot of boutique basses (Ritter look like a 5 year old’s drawing of a CT IMO. Played a CT once, many years ago, in the Bass Centre in Wapping. It was really nice.

I’ve played several very expensive Foderas and the best of them I thought was not bad. The rest I didn’t like at all. I’ve much preferred the Seis and Alembics I’ve owned/played. In fact there was one at Bass Day a few years back and Paul Everson’s stand was opposite. I played one of Paul’s basses that absolutely blew the Fodera out of the water IMO. Nicko
I was going to say I never got that excited by a bass, and realised that's not what this thread is about. I'll get my coat.
