Al Krow Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 Live Nation are doing a series of 300-car gigs this summer at Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Liverpool and London. A bunch of B-listers have been signed up: Ash, Dizzee Rascal, The Lightning Seeds and Gary Numan, The Streets and Tony Hadley, I guess 'cos ticket sales and budgets are limited. Concert-goers will be able to stand outside their vehicles in allocated spaces, or sit in their own fold-out chairs, but banned from bringing their own food! If this is the future; it's bleak. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-53090354 Quote

taunton-hobbit Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 I would think Live Nation are slowly bleeding (financially) to death ................. As far as they are concerned, this has to be worth a go (I agree with Dad btw) 😎 Quote
JapanAxe Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 So they are relying on making money by selling punters overpriced comestibles. I'll pass, thanks. Quote

I'm not joking, that reminds me of a gig we did (stupidly) on World Cup Final day, at a sport event attended by about 400 people and at which the organiser promised us there would be no TV. There was, and everyone watched it, except ONE person Quote

Happy Jack Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 If you drive in to a venue in your own car, just how exactly are they going to ensure that nobody brings in any food? Sniffer dogs? Deep probe ransackings? Quote

Maude Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 Just do the weekly shop on the way to the gig. 1 Quote
Al Krow Posted June 19, 2020 Author Posted June 19, 2020 If they're going to make this work, they should maybe book some more relevant acts. I mean Gary Numan - what the heck has he got to do with Cars? 9 Quote

hooky_lowdown Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 People will need to bring an empty bottle or three, I wouldn't want to use a port-a-loo, not to mention hand sanitizer. 🤤 Quote

franzbassist Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 I know a couple of German guys who have been doing these gigs. They said they were pretty hesitant at first, but now they're actually quite enjoy the experience. Could be thy're just gald to get out and play, of course.... Quote
stewblack Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 (edited) Presumably the drummer will have to set up in a van, or a car like the Pope's. I can use my BF Midget and Elf from my Picanto, but really the whole thing does seem a little impractical. Edited June 19, 2020 by stewblack 1 Quote

arthurhenry Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 (edited) Lights? Sound? Crew? 2m wide speaker cabinets so they can be carried safely by two people? Edited June 19, 2020 by arthurhenry Quote

Al Krow Posted June 20, 2020 Author Posted June 20, 2020 (edited) Well the first one happened at the Royal Victoria Country Park in Netley near Southampton organised by SoundLevelEvents and turned out to be a bit more successful than we had feared... And folk even got to take their own alcohol! Good luck with yours @walshy - when / where will you be playing? Edited June 20, 2020 by Al Krow 1 Quote
