Hi all,  I started playing bass in 1969, but In my 70th year, it’s time to wind it down a bit.  Funny that I have missed this forum, but better late than never.  I started in dance bands, which were pretty ubiquitous in those days, given the amount of work available.  Most gigs were initially in working mens clubs, however as I progressed I covered the American and RAF bases, functions corporate and private, residencies, backed a few artists, all the usual semi pro stuff.  The latest venture has come to an end by mutual consent and the lack of suitable gigs, plus that inevitable age thing.  Lots of ups and a few downs, one of the high water marks was meeting Jimmy Haslip at Ronnie Scott’s,  what an extraordinary player and real gentleman.

My gear (which I will be parting with bit by bit) consists of: Aguilar Tone Hammer 500, two DB112 cabs, Hartke HA3500, Yamaha TRB 1005, Sadowsky Metro line 5 string and shed loads of PA stuff.  Hopefully I can pass some on to fellow players, so that they are still used again and again.

Always loved jazz fusion, funk, Soul etc.  and of course the amazing bassists who still manage to impress me with their innovation.  Looking forward to reading the posts and will join in when I have something sensible to say!
