Sambrook
I think I know this is a dumb question, but can you use any strings on an acoustic bass? Or do the pins at the bridge dictate 'special' strings?
Delberthot
I've used regular flatwound strings on an acoustic before. I don't like the screetchy squeaky noise that the bronze ones make when you move your left hand
Nebadon2000
Try low tension flats from LaBella or TI. To much tension can be a problem. If you prefer Rounds try with Round Core [not Hex] and light gauge 40-95/
RedVee
My Acoustic came with those horrible Phosphor Bronze strings, so I quickly replaced them with La Bella White Nylon Tapewounds which are a popular choice for Acoustics. They are ten times better than the stocks in both feel and tone. therealting
I also replaced the horrible phosphor bronze strings on my Warwick Alien with La Bella tapewounds - I went for white nylon golds.
Maude
First thing I've ever done with an acoustic (guitar or bass) is get those bronze strings off. You'll lose a bit of acoustic volume usually, but along with that you'll lose the horrific clatter and screech you get from playing it. I've got Fender nylons on both my acoustic basses.
