For what it's worth I am most impressed by Si's dovetail joints, starry mitres, foldable stands and his cunningly wrought box.

Thank you sir. :hi:

We now need to see a five-station bass rack*.

*For temporary rickenbacker 'storage'.

If you genuinely want one I'll make one. The postage will be so high it'll be cheaper to buy one yourself though. ;)

My dad found this when they moved house in 2019. It was his dad's, but he's never used it and has no use for it. So after a bit of faff with customs and import duties, it arrived with me.

I used to have one of those back in the day for making kitchen units

How does the lid fit on? The tool looks too tall and blocks the slot.

The original drill guides are Imperial so dad turned and hardened some metric ones before he sent it. They were underneath the jig when I put it back in the box. If you put it back in properly then the lid goes back on ;)

Lovely.  I have some of my Grandad's stuff.

One of my favourite things in the workshop is his pocket knife.  He always seemed to have it on him.  Seemingly on a whim, he would get it out and prune the raspberries, roses or owt else that needed a sharp knife.  He'd have it back in his pocket by the time you'd realised what he was up to.

More of a refurb than a creation, but here's a bench from my bench. We bought some very tired cast iron bench ends last year, and I had them all blasted and powder coated. The slats are iroko. I had to plane off a chamfer because the flanges on the ends were tapered, so the chamfer allows the slat to sit better into the recess. I also cut in some small square rebates into each hole so the head of the coach bolt sat nicely into the hole and was also held tight when doing up the lock nuts.

Only three more to complete now...

That's put me in mind of Jack's last project in our workshop.

Prior to this he had made clocks and ukuleles.

A neighbour saw how well our garden chairs' restoration had worked and asked him to restore their knackered bench.  Jack was unable to do much other than rip down the Sapele boards into batons for the job before he got ill and I finished it for him.

We used Green Hammerite and it really enhanced the cast iron sides.  I think we used yacht varnish to finish the Sapele.  All of the bolts, washers and nuts are stainless steel.

@Si600 I’m in the workshop for a while today, if you see one one of these for sale near you I’d recommend getting one, I think you would enjoy using it, they are great for shaping and sharpening all sorts 🙂

Doesn’t the continued existence of Tony Blair within your name-based constituency knock down your batting average a little ? That must cost your bestness quotient quite a bit. 😛
