Huck
Hi all, Is it just me or is this common? Sometimes I think all I need is just a capo, cutting pliers and a piece of cloth. Maybe not even that. Then there are days when I'm worried I'm missing something and need to get it into my toolbox: from a simple string action ruler, feeler and radius gauges to all sorts of files, allen keys, screwdrivers, even a straight notched edge and a homemade fret levelling beam lol... Help me out. What's the healthy and useful balance for day to day activities? What's your go to tool subset that covers 80%-90% of your needs and comes in handy on the move or at home? Any multi-tools or other product recommendations to save space?

LeftyJ
None, I've gathered all kinds of separate tools and I have quite a collection of spare parts (various kinds of screws, knobs, strap buttons and stuff). Stuff I carry to gigs is limited (small flashlight, multitools (Gerber Multiplier 600 Deluxe with bit driver, Cruztools Groovetech), spare batteries and a microfiber cloth for cleaning my bass and the strings after playing). For maintenance at home I have a whole lot of separate tools (and indeed a neck cradle too, but mine is a one-piece Harley Benton made of cork).
ahpook
I don't really have a 'toolset', I have a selection of household tools, some of which get used on my basses and guitars. In fact the only thing I keep separate are a bunch of allen keys and small screwdrivers in an old glasses case (so Mrs. Pook doesn't nick them for her bike maintenance ) and a 12" metal ruler so it doesn't get greasy like my other metal rulers that I keep in the shed. I have some feeler gauges, but I was given them by my dad and I think I've used them twice. Soz Dad ! Neck stand ? I use a small pile of paperback books and a bit torn off an old towel. Suits me fine - I mainly do my own set-ups and I've never felt the need for more. Each to their own of course. acidbass
I use the Cruztools Bass Player kit: https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Cruz_Tools.html Has everything you need for a full setup except radius gauges and a tuner. The only thing I can't do with it is fretwork!
