Mykesbass Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Just heard Peter Green has gone. He was still hugely talented despite all the damage when I met and worked with him and the fabulous @mybass late 90s early 2000s. Died peacefully in his sleep aged 73. 1 5 Quote
Steve Browning Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 How desperately sad. The finest blues guitarist the UK produced. IMHO. 4 Quote
Happy Jack Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Sad, but not surprised. When I saw him at the Union Chapel about 10 years ago he was then the same age that I am now, i.e. 63. I like to think that I can pass for mid-50s. Peter could have passed even then for mid-70s, barely able to stand up, quite unable to solo. An enormous loss. I'll raise a glass to him this evening. 4 Quote

Yes, wasn't in the best of physical health when I worked with him. Quote
GeeJayW Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Very sad to hear this. At his peak his playing was sublime and he was a very humble man. RIP Peter. 2 Quote
4000 Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 One of the greats, for me. Playing, singing, tremendous songs too. And that tone....... 2 Quote
chris_b Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Very sad news. In various bands Peter Green was a major part of the sound track to my youth. 1 Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 No!! tim smith and Peter green in one week! both will be in excellent company - genii together. thank you for the music. 😢 Quote
KevB Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 He sadly wasn't a well man for a very long time. McVie always said he wasn't the same person after being spiked with LSD back in the 60s. I saw him not long after he first resurfaced after being away a long long time. He was rusty and a little confused but could still deliver that distinctive tone. His rhythm section that night in a tiny club was Cozy Powell and Neil Murray. Slightly surreal. RIP Man of the World. 2 Quote
ClassicVibes Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Another joining the great gig in the sky... RIP that man. 1 Quote
josie Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 A sad loss, although as noted above the real loss was a long time ago. Such a distinctive and influential sound. "Loved Another Woman" is one of our band standards and will be even more poignant now. RIP. 1 Quote
greenolive Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Very sad news , one of my all time favourite guitar players , I too shall raise a glass to the legend 🥃 RIP Quote
songofthewind Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 So sorry to hear this. His playing and his atmospheric instrumentals made me shiver. What a sound he had. RIP Peter. Quote
lowdown Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 Sad news. I live a few roads away from him and he could often be seen walking about locally just down by the sea front. According to others, although he was a person of few words, he seemed to be happy and enjoying a quite life. Also, I believe some of his family and children live in the area as well, so he wasn't living a secluded life. R.I.P Quote
Japhet Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 With any luck he'll be sitting down having a jam with Danny Kirwin right now. Quote

madshadows Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 When I heard this yesterday it really upset me and I didn't really know why !!, maybe because of the his musical life panned out, love his guitar playing, singing and songwriting, such a loss, been playing his early Fleetwood Mac stuff since I heard the news. RIP Peter Green John Quote
Paul S Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 That his guitar playing was superlative is pretty much a given. But for me half the pleasure of listening to him was his voice. He really seemed to have sadness oozing out of every pore when playing and singing. 1 Quote
Bobthedog Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 One of my favourite songs to noodle over in a quiet moment is Peter Green's Need Your Love So Bad. I just find it one of the most relaxing tunes to play and listen too. Sad times RIP Mr Green. Quote
