Josh
It's something I've been waiting for for a long time now, and it's almost here: Although I can't see how Hadrien, Damian and tBBC's best friend class as Gospel bassists. JohnSlade07
Blimey! When I see things like that it makes me realise what a limited, meat and potatoes bass player I am. It also makes me realise that (sadly) I kind of see myself as a bass player with a "tradtional role" rather than a musician first and foremost (if you see what I mean). Mind you it also makes me realise that I'm still most impressed by great bass playing within great songs e.g. Mr Jamerson. Just my perosnal taste I guess. But I suspect it was more of an attempt to shift a few more units. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this-three of my favourite players AND Andrew Gouche, who is just a groove monster. No official release date as of yet but the clip looks very promising. Jay

(apart from a bassist convention or gear show) its bass playing for bassists. I'm a bassist of sorts and even I can't watch that. And before anyone jumps down my throat I didn't use the word "crap" they are all obviously accomplished bassists but this sort of thing does nothing for me. Bit like a basschat bass bash with a drummer ! I'll find my own way out....
Kiwi
I was quite excited about this until I saw the video. I think its soulless compared to the gospel I like listening to. Where's the love?
jmanfunk
Not exactly what I was expecting either but hopefully the entire release will be a little more soul stirring. A few lessons from Gouche on 'shout music' would be nice- and thurman Edited March 13, 2009 by jmanfunk

Where's the love?[/quote] Well, in all honesty theres only really 2 "Gospel Musicians" out of the bunch, 2 younger generation GM's, and the rest are just fusion soloists/technichians. The widdling from Janek, Hadrien and Damien could easily be replaced by a couple of other well known Gospel bassists (Justin Raines, Maurice Fitzgerald & Dwayne Wright would've been perfect). Im a little puzzled as to why there in the vid?.Certainly nothing to do with Gospel...There bass playing is more about them, than the music!!... I could listen to Gouche's groove all day long!! I was in Miami last year & we went out for a drive on the Sunday morning & I found a great gospel station on the radio. It was a convertible with a decent quality stereo & we got a few funny looks in some of the darker parts of the outer suburbs as we were two very white people cruising around with gospel blaring out at full volume Put me in a great mood all day from what I remember. . . The latter thrive on solos and technical correctness, whereas the prior are just happy to lay down a solid groove and have fun whilst doing it, they just happen to be amazing at it. Though I'm a little annoyed at the fact I didn't really get that tone Dale gets out of his EBS rig and Lakland.

It was a while ago (mid/late '80s) but I think it may have been Nathan East on bass for the evening. Great live vocals from what I remember. I had an album on cassette but it's long been chewed up in a car stereo, lol. I love that New Direction vid, I'd love to see something like this live. I have to say as a fan of some of the noodle-meisters featured here I couldn't agree more with the comments made about the promo vid - it seems a bit uncohesive too and very 'jammed' - which would be fine if it was more about the groove and less about the notes! MrT-Bass
Hey Guy's, Has anyone ordered the Bass Sessionz DVD from gospelchops.com? I placed a pre-order mid June and was told it would be shipped on the 1st July but haven't seen anything yet and I don't think the clips on youtube will satisfy me for much longer. NJE
Hey all, Just want to say thanks for some of these bands and bass players names. I have checked out some of the videos and they just had my laughing with shear musical joy! Particularly love that New Direction video, what a brilliant sound and brilliant happy energising music, doesn't matter what they are singing about, i am not religious and I still love it. Nice one.
