Bravewood 62 jazz bass

MM Stingray 62

If I didn’t already know that I’m not really a Jazz person, I’d be all over that like checking on nitro lacquer. John’s builds are just about the closest thing you can get to an actual pre-CBS Fender with consistent build quality.

Stellar! Body looks just right. Neck a replacement? Looks darker than usual (could be the light) and unusual (not impossible by any means) to see that much flame. Beautiful bass and work.

Yup, this one has a roasted maple neck replacement. Feel wise it is indistinguishable from the incredible genuine C neck on my 64.

Nice. No one better to do it. If John still took orders I'd consider one with a roasted body - just to try to keep overall weight down.

One of my Bravewood jazz basses has a roasted neck John built it for himself. It's got Radioshop pickups in it the bass sounds absolutely killer.

Interesting. I would not have guessed that was roasted if you didn't say so. Looks the amber tone that most of the originals do.

Excellent choice, I would be surprised if you regret it. Very interested to know your thoughts when it arrives.

Thanks Guy. Having owned a fair few origins 50s & 60s & custom shops I’m very much looking forward to this one. Especially as the vintage ones are out of my price now and the CS ones, as great as they can be, don’t feel quite so special to me anymore - and are also way too blooming expensive now!

Always had a soft spot for an ash bodied Jazz with a blonde finish - sealed the deal.

In my experience, his instruments are as good as a CS to play, but with a more realistic look and feel, particularly the neck. You are well qualified to give your opinion, so don't forget your NBD post.

New CS are the same price as a decent refin original bought privately, so no contest for me.

I have a Bravewood Strat still and although I have just bought a lovely '65, the Bravewood is going nowhere.

That’s all good to hear from you Guy, I hoped the neck would be great as the necks so often let down the CS basses.
I’ll post my thoughts on this thread when it comes.
Congrats on the 65 👍
