drTStingray Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 I really want one of these 😯😬 There's also an SR5 fretless without pickguard 😎 https://www.music-man.com/bfr/july-2020?utm_source=email&utm_campaign=july_2020_bfr 3 Quote
hiram.k.hackenbacker Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 OOF. Love the finish and the gold hardware. Not so keen on the black position markers and the white plate. In fact, I think I could wear the black dots if it weren't for the colour of the plate. Quote

You could always buy a black plate - would look great with the gold screws. I prefer the pearl white on this colour. The SR5's rather nice as well. This always happens when I'm seriously thinking about ordering a Wal - Musicman issue something I don't actually need, but can't resist for less than half the price 😧😊 Edited July 29, 2020 by drTStingray 1 Quote
hiram.k.hackenbacker Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Yep. I know exactly what you mean. Quote
OliverBlackman Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 (edited) That is wonderful. I had a 2007 3EQ stingray, loved the colour but hated the sound. However I recently played one of those 30th anniversary stingray 5s (white one with flame roasted neck) and loved it. Does anyone know if the specials the same electronics or how they compare? CameronJ Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Wow, I wasn’t expecting the SR5 to look as good as it does without a pickguard. It really works! 1 Quote

Nice, but would've looked even better if they still had the older style of SR⁵ pickup without the ears. And better still if the two pieces of timber were a better match. I don't like the light stripe at the bottom edge of the upper piece. Minor points, but at the price they'll be charging... 1 Quote
NancyJohnson Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 I've only owned one MusicMan (a Bongo 5HH, that I wish I still owned TBH), sometimes get an odd wobble for a Stingray, but it always passes...reckon it wouldn't be about the having, the thrill is in the chase. I like they're actually making a 5-string Stingray that looks like the 4-string. I love the St Vincent guitar. Quote

I was just wearing myself off the Ghostwood finish, and now this Pink Champagne is lush. Fortunately my last barrier is placing a Monetary limit on any purchase which is stopping me Quote

When my mum passed away, I inherited a bit (let's not talk numbers) and promised myself (and her too, as she did say to spend some of it friviously) an instrument of some sort. Actually popped an email to MusicMan about and asked whether they could tweak one of the grey-sparkle ones for me...single bridge pickup, coil tapped, volume control only, plain scratchplate. I mean, how difficult would that have been? I actually wanted less than the stock specification. Didn't hear a bean, so bought a Spector. Quote

I wanted to order a Stingray some time back in a colour and hardware combination that they didn’t have a build number for. They did the finish and all the other bits, just not all together. Oh, it had an SLO neck on it too, which they still did then. I did get a reply, very much in the ‘oh no, we don’t do that kind of thing’ tone. I pointed out that they would have everything they needed to put it together and I was prepared to wait and pay extra if required. The next reply may as well of been ‘off you f**k’. So I did. Quote

Years ago (early 80s), a mate of mine bought a new Fender Precision in Landaan. At the time Fender either didn't make the combination of body/neck that he wanted and, get this, the shop just swapped necks with a different bass. 1 Quote

Yes, I think @Chiliwailer has described similar occurrences when he worked in the trade. At least he got what he was after 😂 Quote

The Fender guys didn’t mind, but the Music Man rep (a real salt of the earth and lovely guy) got panicked as I never told him which neck swaps we did, so their records were out. It was ok to swap a neck on same spec gear, the customer was always happy and ended up with a top notch set up too. Anyway @hiram.k.hackenbacker, haven’t you got a credit note at BD? https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/MM_SR4HH_BFR_Pink_Champagne_Sparkle.html Quote

No I spent that on the Darkglass 900 V2 ‘Euryale‘. If I was going to spend £2750 on a Stingray (I’m not. I’m really not. Well not today anyway 😂), I would take that Dargie over the Pink Champagne. There’s something about those plain ebony fretboards that I really like. The singer in my 80’s band would go ape over that Champagne finish. I might send her the pic and report back with her reaction. Quote

Some of the SR4 Fretless issued last winter were like that (but not all - I did have my eye on one at the time). 5 hours ago, 4000 said: I’ll pass. 😂 Thank the Lord!! There are only 85 worldwide - wouldn't pay for too many to order one 😏 😂 @hiram.k.hackenbacker yes an interesting and possibly predictable reaction - several ladies have asked to have their photo taken with my coral red Stingray Classic - one of them is left handed and held it the wrong way up...... 😬 I don't know if you know but they have some SLO neck profile Stingray Specials available (only in the US), along with lefties as well. Im seriously contemplating the Stingray pink champagne sparkle 😍 Edited July 30, 2020 by drTStingray 3 Quote

Yeah, she properly gives me what for if I turn up to an 80's gig without the Modulus. If I move up next to her while she's singing, in the right light, the sparkle can make her forget lyrics. Complete glitter junkie 😂 1 Quote
Misdee Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 I really like the colour of this bass, and I don't normally go for sparkle finishes, or pink for that matter. But I think the gold hardware is too much. It makes it look as if it is trying too hard to be ostentatious. And EBMM don't offer the option to change it, as others have pointed out previously. Such a shame as I am in the market for a Stingray at the moment. Quote
OliverBlackman Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 If I gigged this bass, this is how I think I would look. 1 Quote
fretmeister Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 I'm just thinking ahead to a significant birthday.. but can UK dealers order SLO necks and the limited models? Or is it a straight "no" from MM for that sort of thing? Quote

Such a shame as I am in the market for a Stingray at the moment. I too don't like gold hardware generally (I like it on Warwick Streamers) - I think it fits this limited Musicman colour perfectly - in fact complements it well. Perhaps since having an aqua blue sparkle Stingray 4HH my acceptance of 'in yer face' colours has increased. To me the pink champagne sparkle is great - it also has a figured roasted maple neck which will add to the 'exclusivity'. If you're wondering whether I'm having great trouble not pushing the button on one of these, you're absolutely correct 😄😍😍😍 Quote
