Vintage Fenders

The people at the bass gallery have access to internet too. So I assume they would know how super rare these are in just one minute of research.  I can't imagine a real custom color '70 jazz being listed in that price range even if it was a regular fretted one.

There was no useful info in the bass gallery ad, so we might know more once it pops up again next week 😉

It could well be refinished, but it's definitely not a 1980 model. The pickup spacing is 1960s, the tuners are late '60s ones, and black binding disappeared in 1972/3. Also, Fender didn't make fretless Jazzes until the late '80s, and those would have had rosewood boards.

No router hump on the body like my late 60s jazz from what I can see.

It does have a slight router hump though - if you look at the back it's visible.

To be honest I'm not convinced it is 100% genuine, and as you or another poster has said, without opening it up you'd never know for sure, but it's certainly not a 1980s model or a complete fake. The fact it sold so quickly when they have other unmodified 1969 Jazzes for sale for less indicates that someone has taken a punt on it being somewhat genuine.

Many many experts here. If you just ask the question in this topic, many people will be willing to help with the correct info :)

Ooh I'd forgotten about this thread. I asked for help didn't I?

Lets see what people make of this neck and tuners - any info gratefully received (cant find the pic of the whole thing and I'm away from the piece at the mo)

Looks like a nice neck to me, Xavier Armenta name stamp which I’ve seen before, small R on the tuners, logo looks right, and even the frets could be the original ones, not sure but possibly a new nut, neck butt stamp looks like the right font , is the last digit a 3?

Pretty sure it is a new nut yes. I cant make out the last digit so was hoping someone would have extra knowledge in order to date it

What year is that bass? I don't think they did the maple neck and black block combo for long did they?

I’ve seen a 68 with them and a 74 , think 74 might have been around the last

that picture is a 73
