It has the most beautiful tort pickguard. It still has a brazilian rosewood fretboard, but pearl dots. The pots date to week 12 of 1965. It appears to be all original, except for a refinish and the screws that hold down the pickup covers (not pictured). Added nerd pictures that show how thoroughly the finish is stripped. There is no single sign to find of the previous (sunburst probably) finish that it started with. Or it started out as a blonde finish, which seems unlikely. In one of the pictures you see the round routermark on the back, which is also present near the back strapbutton. The square marking in the neckpocket is also a sign of authenticity. It's a pretty light bass too, that was an important feature on the checklist. Expand Lovely, congratulations. 2 Quote
SurroundedByManatees Posted April 10 Posted April 10 For those interested; I gave it a shot with a UV light that I had lying around for ages and that just resurfaced a few weeks ago. It still works Pictures are not very good as it's hard to take sharp pictures, but it gives an overall idea. There are darker areas visible where you can expect usual where. So I assume the Lacquer has been touched up there at one point. The grain of the alder is also visible faintly. I'll give it another try at later on, and will examine my other basses the same way. It's quite fun I think. 1 Quote
GuyR Posted April 10 Posted April 10 (edited) That’s a great score. If it plays as good as it looks, it’s a winner. Very good pictures too! Edited April 10 by GuyR 1 Quote

Mid-80s Maya with cracked off poly. Mid 80's sunburst Fender Performer turned daphne blue! 1950s mandolin showing clear wear Nitro finished snd slightly reliced kit I made during covid shows wear not visible to naked eye (only the bright bit is visible) 1960s Kay/Teisco doesn’t show many secrets! 1 Quote
SurroundedByManatees Posted April 11 Posted April 11 That's a cool session! That performer bass would actually look great in Daphne Blue. Surprisingly how dark your nitro finished bass shows, but from what I've read the lacquers "load" with time. Quote
