A nice story from Rick Beato about his uncle’s ‘52 P-Bass

It’s a lovely story. (But he really takes his time getting to the point…)

That's web content mate, everything's either too short or too long 🤔

I love my dad dearly but it reminds me of one of his stories.

I also thought the punchline was going to be “super rich Joe Bonamassa sent it back as a present” - but no.

Business first I guess.

Ha, yes. That’s what I thought too.

Also, there’s no definitive confirmation that it actually was his uncle’s bass. Whilst they seem sure it was, they don’t say how they verified it other than it went missing in the 70s and this instrument turned up a couple of blocks away. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Must be, I lost a fiver in the late 80's, a mate of mine found a fiver in 2002 a few streets away, I made him give it back to me :)

Somebody may think that they have a bargain.

Without a whole load more photos, I don;t think anybody here will drop that some of money on it. I'm absolutely no expert so will leave it to others to comment on the tiny minutae that makes this a genuine bargain or a bitsa.

I hope not, Andy Baxter has one for only £2.5k! It looks legit but for that price I’d want to be 100% guaranteed of it providence and originality.

I traded a Nikon F2 with an 85/1.8 lens for my 72.
It was the mid 70’s and it was a relatively new bass.

The F2 was a proper camera. Many of the newspaper photographers used the F2, Canon started eating into that market with the Canon F1.

A bloke tried to mug one of the photographers I knew for his F2. The snapper slugged him round the head with the F2 knocked him out and then took pictures for the newspaper and the police. Old school camera and one of the finest cameras ever made.

Suspect your 72 has appreciated more as a mint F2 even with the 85mm f1.8 is around £600 now.

Mind you that F2 will still be working long after termites and cockroaches have taken over the world.

Possibly the worst soldering I've ever seen, plus this pot is clearly dated 67.

You’ve never seen my soldering, but it’s really is bad.

Wouldn’t have been a red coloured wire either.

Its just all shades of wrong this one.

Wow.

That looks like it was soldered by a TIG welder who had no idea how to use TIG welder or how to solder. That can be cleaned up though, with some care and attention, two qualities apparently lacking to date.

That assumes they haven't used a club hammer to put the nuts on the other side of the pot.

Judging by this, I wouldn't make any assumptions at all.

That's bad, but mine is worse.

This is 1960's Connery-era James Bond quality compared to my horrible soldering which is not even Steptoe & Son quality.
