Possibly the most stunning vintage Jazz bass I've ever set my eyes on.  That is genuinely stunning!

Love the colour and how it contrasts with the gold-ish guard and maple neck.  Way out of my price range and the messed about electrics make it non original anyway

The same guy has been selling this monster for over a year and IIRC it started out with a flamboyant description and a £299 price tag. You don’t need to be trained in psychoanalysis to diagnose optimism here…..

It’s a standard Siennaburst Fender.

only obvious change is the knobs (as these would be strat ones) These were notorious for being absolute monsters in terms of weight. I had one that I reckon was over 5kg.

 

Sold it for £750 in 2004. Reckon this is about £2000 to expensive. AB had a late 70s jazz on for £2k, for example.

I can’t see the images there on my mobile, but you might be right. The neck and body join look good and so does the scratch plate. Occam’s razor and all that.

It might be, but if so I don't think it's a 77/78 as the seller states, I think I'm correct in saying that Siennaburst was very much an 80's thing. And certainly every Siennaburst I've seen has a standard board (i.e., no block inlays). We should never discount the idea that Fender found an unused 70's neck and stuck it on a new 80's instrument of course, but the bass is so far from original anyway that I doubt it the question of whether that body left the factory with that neck could be established to any reasonable degree. Given this I suspect that in marketplace terms it's a bitsa, and as you say, around £2000 too expensive 👍

Does anyone own, or played a sub 8lbs 60’s P? I remember playing a very lightweight jobbie in a local ‘ish’ music shop in the early 70’s, but of course back then weight wasn’t an issue like it is now in my dotage😟 Didn’t buy it because I was hopelessly in love with my Jazz, oh & as an apprentice, I was probably skint too🙈🙈

Yeah she sure is pretty! Has a swapped out pot but I have the original in the case. 12yr old TI Flats on it so just about worn in 🤣

Just weighed my 63 - exactly 3.5 kg.
Done many long gigs in the 30+ years I’ve owned it.
