no, it means it's a p bass neck from the 22nd week of 66

Thanks, that’s interesting as it’s on a 1970 precision, this is where I’m getting confused a bit 🙂

Looking back I just went at a cursory glance, I think the last number is actually 68 rather than 66. I guess it was kicking round in the factory for a while!

Pretty normal practice in Fender at the time, according to folk-lore

Definitely, what a very strange thing to do

Probably back in the day with no internet and the nearest music shop was in a city a few hundred miles away so if you wanted something you had to make it. Sadly not everyone is good at woodwork!

I clicked on this 60s precision on  reverb, and omg, I can’t say I’ve ever seen a thumb rest like this 😁

Fixable by the right person though

Depending what is underneath the block - prolly an easy job relatively speaking with another full PG over it

Is it a block? It looks like a trench dug in to me

Sadly not a block but a trough.

I’m a joiner/ cabinet maker and I could fix it but it’s the finish I think you would struggle with, if it was in the uk I might have considered it

Definitely a trough, you can see the internal corner and the cut edge of the p/g. Given that only about half would be visible under a complete p/g and that it’s already somewhat battered elsewhere, a colour matched, fill block wouldn’t be a total necessity.
