Im not a massive fan of maple boards on precision’s (even though I’ve got a few) I prefer rosewood now , but there’s a few early to mid 70s ones for sale at the moment that look quite nice, and this one looks in very good condition https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/155213540116?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=6eggpscVQGW&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=1wDkd4CjTIi&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I used to think the rosewood boards were best , and then noticed that the Fenders I had been mostly playing both had maple. So I ditched that preconception.

Hey!

Reggaebass sent me in this direction for the advice of the experts!

Any clue on if this is a genuine 77/78 ashtray? The non original screws made me think it might not be, but I'm hoping it is!

Lovely. I've got one very similar but in sunburst. I prefer the natural though.

It's not too bad, I've certainly had noisier basses. That said, I'd definitely avoid strip lights and dimmer switches!

Im gonna try a few things, no no dimmers or strip lights here. If I touch the lead as it enters the input it kills the hum, so Im earthing it but I cant play and hold it at the same time 😂

It was quite noisy and was humming when I first got it and when I took the plate off there was a loose earth wire. A bit of soldering and it was absolutely fine

Worth checking out under the bonnet then

Now then, this popped up on facebook with Bass Monkey, and I think it deserves a thread of it's own! What a splendid Precision.

Is this @Clarkyor @walshy?? Sorry for not paying more attention!

It’s @walshy he has some fine basses and excels with the precisions
