20 years into the furure and some young players will be saying WoW those vintage 60's 70's 80's P&J Bass's were cheap in the 2023's cost of living crisis

I sold a 1968 Gibson les paul for £500 many years ago along with a 1973  Pbass for £750 a few years later.. at the time I had a young family and needed the cash..

they both would have made great investments though...

I normally check his website everyday. I didn’t see this. I’ll have to check his reverb also. Cheers for sharing

Sometimes he puts them on reverb first,  so yeah it’s worth checking both 👍

That looks like a logo from a Fender amp. Case might not be original or it lost its logo at some point.

A 73 jazz has come up on reverb, it doesn’t look too bad , it’s had a new pickguard and brass nut fitted which looks out of line on my phone

Is it just me?  I can’t push the boat out that far if it’s got a non-original pickguard. The pickguard is essential for the aesthetic of these early 70’s basses. I’ve looked at quite a few, and as soon as the guard is wrong, it’s a no from me.
Yes, I’m probably in the minority, I know.

Yeah definitely, I too like the deep tort original pickguards

The pickguard looks pretty bad imo. The bridge also has been changed by the way.

At this price I'd expect a more original instrument.

Looks like the E tuner has been been changed too, and the control plate doesn’t look that old

If you go directly to the vendor’s website, it’s £2795 rather than £3045, which makes it slightly more palatable, but still on the pricey side I’d say.

I’d looked at this auction beforehand and whilst I didn’t see anything I would bid on, this 57 P Bass caught my eye. I went back just now to check what happened and the hammer price was £8.5k. With buyers premium and VAT that’s just shy of £10,750. Not too bad on face of it and part of me now regret not having a pop at it.

Doesn’t seem a bad price really ,if like has been said it’s all good, I’ve never played a 57, don’t they have quite a chunky neck

Likewise, I’ve no idea how these feel. I’ve never played anything older than my ‘77 P Bass but I’m intrigued by older vintage models, especially pre-CBS. The idea of owning one is appealing. It may be just a vanity thing and knowing my luck I’d end up not liking it. Having said that, getting a good deal on something like this would mean moving it on again wouldn’t be too difficult.
