Ibanez Owners Club

Is there already an Ibanez Owners thread? I did search but couldn't see one.

I just realised I am a two Ibanez man now having never owned one before.

I think the Talman is a real hidden gem. No bass, so inexpensive, has the right to be that good.

But this SRH500 is just pure class. How it sounds so bright and fresh strung with flats and having no pick up is remarkable.

I agree Stew.

I have a Talman TMB100M, the maple fretboard version.  It's a superb bass in every way.  The matt yellow body colour definately won't be to everyone's taste, but I love it for its retro look.

It plays easily and sounds fantastic with a wide range of sounds from the active preamp.  The neck is quite chunky but feels good to me.  And surprisingly, it's lightweight, although at the price of a tiny bit of neck-dive.  I just allow the bass to sit level and it works fine.

It's by far the cheapest bass I own but I enjoy it as much as my more expensive ones.

Frank.

What's the weight of your TMB100, Frank? The short scale TMB30's are known to be relatively heavy for a short scale, so interested if the long scale is lighter than the short scale version. 😃

I’ve had my SR600 since 2010 and it’s easily my most gigged bass despite playing bass since 1982!  A real workhorse and the natural finish hides the inevitable bumps and scratches well.  Only repair has been swapping the original tuners for a set of Gotoh GB707s.  The acoustic is a more recent addition - as is the rosewood thumb-rest and black tuners to replace the original silver items...

This is my first and only Ibanez - an SRMS805 in Deep Twilight. It's a world away from my Precisions but I like that it gives me that more modern option.

It's also now wearing this ramp that I made for it myself which I'm finding really helps with right hand speed. Combined with the narrow string spacing it makes faster lines a doddle! 🙂

Hard to believe my SR900 is my home beater bass (not that it gets beaten), I got it fairly cheaply on here and wow what a great Ibby, although I found a solution for those terrible Bartolini Mk 1’s, I hate them! - bit of fettling involved with those cheap Chinese covers off eBay but got there in the end 😊AD54835B-C8BF-461D-8A3A-A07C88446499.thumb.jpeg.e92fa3cef613cb350446b4e3f0c4f829.jpeg4725E09C-3833-4723-BC56-84D584B7A30A.thumb.jpeg.c6c107d4d145d3ee4c56a39216dbc725.jpegCF389A89-8CA5-4D27-8FBA-A647D22B8E58.thumb.jpeg.6cbb4a46ab4928d5666130f22d84d914.jpeg388FD90C-153C-4AA1-B14C-3E4D4DA3647E.thumb.jpeg.1310ac57a109335efec6e19b72bc9a58.jpegimage.thumb.jpg.b920102ef773342d78362f0983c52454.jpg

I remember his sounded amazing. When I switched to bass a couple of years later I found nothing that good until I came across the Aria I still play  to this day

I have an Ibanez, it's a bit different to the rest shown here...

Now that's strangely familiar... :D

I've had an Ibby or three pass through the Bass Dungeon. Some of them are still there:

EDA900upscale.thumb.jpg.4f82a10dcd4d14a8c37adf7ba203ee7b.jpg

EDA900 - couldn't afford an Affirma AFR & this was cheaper, plastic-er and much, much oranger. Skinny SR-shape neck & piezos make it fun to play and quite odd-sounding.

sr500refin01.thumb.jpg.2f14e6360a19dd38ca54df548a1b731d.jpg

SR500 - I've previously owned 2x SR800s, fretted & fretless and missed having one, so I picked up a beater of an SR500, scraped off the remains of the nasty brown stain stuff & gave it a proper old Danish oiling. It's lovely but I'd swap it for a through-neck SR in a heartbeat.

RS924 Roadster - I wouldn't call myself a collector buy I'd hate to part with this, despite realising I haven't played it in years. This is 40 years old and spotless, practically unplayed, not a mark on it. I have gigged it a bit, but fear of damage & the fact it's a bit of a boat anchor meant it's now been in its case for years. Should at least drag it out for a play & take some decent pics of it.

BlazerBits.thumb.jpg.34f29b715e0acf156a1db571f4545863.jpg

BL700 Blazer Mk1 - Top of the Pile Of Shame of projects I've had waiting for years while Captain Apathy slowly dissected my excuse for a soul from the inside. 1980 Blazer that someone has stripped and smothered with a gallon of grey-blue gloop that looks like the stuff you put on garden sheds. The plan is to sand it back so the stain just enhances the grain pattern & then oil it. Will look awesome if Hell ever freezes over when I get around to doing it. Apart from that it's complete, everything works & the scratchplate just needs a small repair to the corner.

I also have a Talman electro-acoustic project, which has been waiting for attention for so long that I'm sure several generations of spiders have lived and died inside it.

Gone but not forgotten - 1991 SR800LF fretless, 1991 SR800LE, 1982 MC150 Musician guitar, 1978 2601 Artist acoustic, and a (familiar-looking) 1972/3 2366B Precision copy. Been through so many there might be some I have forgotten, will update if I remember anything interesting!

Just got hold of a used SR505 (with the mandatory worn spot above the neck pickup). Love everything about it - Pickups and preamp are great, the neck feels amazing and the 16.5mm string spacing is so much more comfortable than the more traditional 5-string spacing of Fender and the like.

Ibanez and myself have a relationship stretching back to the mid 90s, and I've never picked up an Ibanez bass or guitar that didn't sound and feel great. Very happy to find that this was no exception, and I've already started thinking about getting hold of a 4-string SR as well.

That looks lovely. I'm a recent convert. Used my 80s Aria for decades with the occasional dalliance here and there, but the two Ibanez I now own are really good instruments.
