The Aguilar pickups & preamp sound fantastic, don’t they.  Got the PJ set & OBP2 in my SR.

It's honestly a super balanced and clean sound, really lifts this from a midrange instrument into the (cheaper) high-end sound range. You might lack the growl from something like SD QPs, but I really dig this. Feels like this bass will become my go-to when I don't need a straight-up J or P sound. The MM sound is really passable, though the position is slightly too far back in comparison with a true MM. But still very happy with the results.

Not seen one of those before. Looks like a pre-evolution of the Grooveline series. Full marks to Ibanez for bass innovation and experimentation over the years.

It was not a series that was continued much beyond 2005 I believe. There are some lovely RD900s out there that caught my eye (they have a two-part light ash body, the RD600 have a mahogany body with maple veneer and a maple top). The neck on the RD900 seems a bit nicer too with some binding around the neck.

I started out with an Ibanez SR300 and after going through Fender, Epiphone, Squier, Peavey and Musicman, I'm back at Ibanez again. This time it's an SRMS805. I'm really liking it. It plays beautifully and I'm getting some evil distorted sounds out of it.

That’s a nice bass. 
My go to bass is an Ibby SR1000. Had it for 33 years & over that time, numerous basses have came & went.  It’s just such a comfortable bass to play & since changing the pickups & pre, it sounds even better.

A well set up 300 or 600 feels better than a 2400 to me for some reason. Maybe I'm a weirdo...

Here are my 3 SR700's

Right is a 2012 model, centre is a 2000 era which I had defretted and piezo bridge installed, wired in place of the bridge pickup, the left hand one is a 1993 vintage which I've had from new and was my main bass for many years, still plays well but is in semi retirement now.

It is indeed a 2600.

 

Intriguingly both those basses have inherently different core tones. The 2405 has a very dark tone, whilst the 2600 is naturally very bright. There is the same pre-amp in each, but that is flexible enough that I can get ‘my’ sound easily out of each instrument no problem.
