deerhunter113 Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 (edited) Hey guys, I recently bought an Ibanez 1345b. It's the best instrument I have ever owned, however I'm having issues with intonating the E string. At the 12th fret, it is about 3-4 cents flat. I have come across several threads on talkbass and one here complaining about the same issue. Has anyone had any luck resolving the intonation issue? I'm using D'addario EXL165-5, which are the same strings that are shipped with the bass. Edited September 14, 2024 by deerhunter113 Quote

deerhunter113 Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Has anyone owned both a premium and prestige Ibanez SR? I currently own an ibanez sr1345b, and wanted to ask whether there is much of a difference between the two in terms of how it feels to play as well as tone? I know that they use different pickups and slightly different woods. I came across a used sr5005 and trying to convince myself not to get it, as I recently got my premium Ibanez and been very happy with it so far. There’s always the temptation that something more expensive will feel/sound nicer. Quote

There’s always the temptation that something more expensive will feel/sound nicer. Well, firstly, yes there is a difference, but not night and day difference. The woods are better, the pickups are better and they are (or can be) nicer made, or more consistently made. However, I play my 1605 more than my 5005 (and more than my 1000, but that is because it is a 4 string) because it is a lot lighter. Absolutely guarantee you will sound pretty much the same on both. The main differences are aesthetic, and PUs from Nords to Barts, which you could do easily enough if you wanted to the the 1345B. Plus the Prestige are MIJ, which I suppose is nice but in reality doesn't get you very much. I'd love a 5006 myself, but wouldn't pony up the stiff premium for one here, about 2x over a 1346B. Save your money unless the 5005 in your actual hands is the most awesome bass you've ever played, or in net terms swapping it for the 1345 gives the tone you prefer, and the changeover is only a couple of hundred quid. I was thinking of swapping the pickups from the nordstrand to bartolini, which should get me there tone wise for the most part. The 5005 is £1200, which is double what I paid for the 1345b. Don’t think it’s going to sound and feel twice as good. Quote

Woodinblack Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 No, the tone is very different (between mine anyway), but the same person playing two basses sounds pretty similar overall. 1 Quote

If you can do the work yourself, and it's not hard, and sell the Nords you'd be out a small amount only. 13 hours ago, deerhunter113 said: Don’t think it’s going to sound and feel twice as good. Nah, but some of those wenge tops are really pretty. Not 600 pretty though. 1 Quote

Simon C Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 I went for a jam at an ex bandmates a few days ago. He was the bass player in the band (I played keys). I took my EHB1000S. He loved it - said it was the best bass he’d played. 2 Quote
