A real workhorse and the natural finish hides the inevitable bumps and scratches well. Only repair has been swapping the original tuners for a set of Gotoh GB707s. The acoustic is a more recent addition - as is the rosewood thumb-rest and black tuners to replace the original silver items... Lovely. @Krysbass did you upgrade tuners on sr600? Quote

bjelkeman Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 I am definitely partial to Ibanez basses. From left - Ibanez: SR700 (-11) [upper], RB850 (-87) [stolen], RB960 [sold], RB760, MC924, RB850, RB650 [sold] (-84), MC900 (-79), MC800 (-78). AX50 (-85) [bottom]. I also have one RS800, sold an MC824, sold another RB850. 4 Quote

itu Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 I "loaned" my maple Affirma to a friend of mine, and yesterday another friend brought me a blond 1986 unlined fretless Musician. Everything is original, even the HSC. Well, there are GHS groundwound strings, which were not from the factory. I have had a 5006 and an Ashula, both converted to 5-string basses, but sold them in original condition. I like wide fretboards... Quote

The bass is big compared with a 5-string Yamaha RBX, but it's light, and comfortable whether I am standing or sitting. It's a 34 inch scale, and the neck feels good to me, and B string works well - there aren't many 5-string acoustics around, and I preferred this to the Boulder Creek at nearly double the price. It was a really nice bass but I just wasn't digging the six string thing at the time. Quote

Mikey D Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 I've been pretty much a one bass man for years. My GWB 35 with custom Nordstand and Bee Pre being the most recent for past 10 years or so. (A selection before that but predominantly a blue yamaha TRB1 6 string that I still regret selling to this day). But last few months I've really got back into playing. I really wanted a short scale so bought the TMB35 a few months ago and added some Aguilar PJ pickups that Walshy on here was selling and a few other mods like new scratchplate, ramp and recessed straplocks. I also was selling my Bolin but love the sound of a piezo and the SRH came up for sale at Bass Direct so had to have it for more straightahead Jazz stuff. And then today after a few months of ogling I just had to get Sardar's used EHB1506MS as I really missed having the full range on a 6 string when playing a few Anthony Jackson and Patitucci transcriptions recently and taken by a lot of the headless basses out there at the moment. Only just got this bass so not going to comment yet except I wish the ramp was deeper. So it turns out I'm definitely a bit of an Ibanez fanboy. If money was no question there are many other Ibanez basses I look at longingly and funnily enough mainly all the signature basses including a premium GWB, TCB1006, ANB205, GVB1006 too... Quote
funkydoug Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 (edited) I went for the short 5er in the spring time and have to say I'm very glad I did. Not only is it astonishing value for money, its pretty much unique in a mass produced bass. Can't think of another short 5er. Very glad about that because if this didn't exist I would have talked myself into a custom made job. Phew! Other than the pickups, what else did you do @Mikey D? Does anyone know of another short 5 or 6 stringer? Edited November 1, 2020 by funkydoug 2 Quote

Currently only minor things like new pickguard shape to take into account pickup routing, recessed straplocks and ramp. Strung E-high C. But I'm toying with changing tuners for Gotoh 707 with Willis style tuners. Someone did a more extreme headless mod on their mezzo on here that is very tempting too. 1 Quote

donslow Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 (edited) I learnt to play on an ‘89 SR800LE like @Doctor J’s one have since sold it and regretted it been through MANY different basses since but have since realised that the SR’s are definitely “my bass” currently own a stock SR500 and a modified SR300, currently on the lookout for another two as I have more mods planned as someone else said, cheap but extremely cheerful Edited November 1, 2020 by donslow 3 Quote
FlatEric Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Classic Ibanez is my favourite Japanese brand, closely followed by the likes of Aria, Yamaha etc. The newest one I have and that is now quite a few years old, is a beautiful SR900. The remainder are mainly 70s and 80s. This little beauty, a cracking bass, ended up with Truckstop, of this parish but was mine for quite a time. He sold it on and regretted it. Hiya mate. . . if you drop in here. One of the oldest is this rare 70s Ibanez Destroyer 2495B. Ibanez Artist, posing and also shown at work! I can't say I have ever played or owned a Classic Ibanez that I wasn't pleased with and that goes for the guitars, as well but that would be naughty putting them up on here! Will come back with a few more. 2 Quote
binky_bass Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 I had a destroyer once back in the day! And a Blazer... now I'm just left with my 79 Roadster. 2 strings fewer than I need, but its got a lot of sentimental value! Quote
