mcnach Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 I'm not a huge fan of his double thumb and slap style, but I've got a lot of time for him when he talks about music. This short video below may seem a bit surprising coming from him, as he's best known for his technical playing, and he's playing a Precision with flats! but listen, the guy makes a lot of sense. 4 Quote
wintoid Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 I agree with what he says, but I put Victor into the category of amazing players whose music I don't actually enjoy that much. It's just too clever for me. There are not many are amazing players whose music I also enjoy. 1 Quote

I've enjoyed watching him with Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, but I never listen to his solo stuff. However I enjoy these sessions he does with an audience, talking about various aspects of music/bass. 1 Quote
wintoid Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 Seems we're in agreement. The best thing I've seen from him is a clip of him playing Stevie Wonder's Isn't She Lovely with an echo pedal. 1 Quote
Cuzzie Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 Makes sense - I wish he played that way more often 4 Quote
40hz Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 (edited) Victor has got a fabulous outlook on playing bass and is always an interesting guy to listen to. Sadly, I can't stand his actual music 😂 Edited August 15, 2020 by 40hz 5 Quote

Nobatron Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 He has some solid advice but I often find his playing is more technique than groove, which is cool to see live but not something I'd sit and listen to. One of those 'do as I say, not as I do' situations. 1 Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 I cannot abide him as a player. as an educator however, is a totally different thing. His approach to learning is fantastic. I repeatedly read the music lesson- amazing book. 2 1 Quote
