MacDaddy Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 (edited) What are you going to play for us... - trumpet! What tune? - tune? This is jazz! Edited August 17, 2020 by MacDaddy Feckin autocorrect! 2 3 Quote
Barking Spiders Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 For me Jazz Club was always one of the best sketches on the Fast Show and probably one of the best recurring comedy sketches full stop. Greaaat stuff! Quote
Steve Browning Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 The video says unavailable to me but I wonder if it's the one where the 'player' sucks rather than blows the trumpet. 🙂 Quote

Now I know that Jazz is A Serious Business, at least for some at the more po-faced let's-do-what-has-already-been-done-1000-times-before types. But in common with everything else That Takes Itself Too Seriously it is a prime target for die Pinkel nehmen 😁 And I say this as a great fan of the more out-there jazz, having played in a free improv group with members of Lol Coxhill's ensemble! 1 Quote
JottoSW1 Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 Enough fun in Jazz regarding the po faced purveyors. Check out the three way spat between Miles Davis / Lester Bowie and Wynton Marsalis. Quote
bassace Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 I was merely swapping one stereotype for another in a free form post bop kind of way. 2 1 Quote

MacDaddy Posted August 18, 2020 Author Posted August 18, 2020 More Jazz Club, including an interjection of Indie Club 😳 😆 Quote
Bilbo Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Jazz musicians love these as much as as anyone else. 1 Quote
Molelaner Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 (edited) I'm also fond of jazz. And my most favorite places are historic jazz clubs in NYC. I can spend hours there and never get bored. Because of this flipping quarantine, I haven't visited New York for 2 years. I was outraged and upset. But this year my parents gave me a trip to New York for two for my birthday, and my best friend and I went to this magical city. I swear to you, these are the best days of my life. Every trip is unforgettable. I'm just in love with this city. I envy those who have not been there yet. Unreal emotions are waiting for you. And who has already been here, leave your impressions under this post, please. Edited August 27, 2021 by Molelaner Quote

StickyDBRmf Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I think if jazz wants to be taken seriously, a soloist should be able to get his point across/be limited to 2 (two) choruses. Quote
