alyctes Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Can't be many of these out there. I'm tempted to suggest this must be the Boat Anchor I keep hearing about https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-Made-Dano-Twin-Neck-Bass-Guitar/274466231164?hash=item3fe776537c:g:BKUAAOSw40xfJcAw 1 Quote
Happy Jack Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 He's not keen to sell it, is he? His listing is less informative than most would use to sell an Encore Precision, there's just a single photo, and it's collection only from Taunton! Quote

At least he doesn't say "if you are looking at this, you will know...". 2 Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 It shouldn't be a boat anchor - my longhorn weighs next to nothing I would imagine anyone looking to drop this amount of money on two basses spliced together with one defretted would be interested in know whether the work was done by a skilled luthier with a reputation or on the owners kitchen table with a butter knife, a hammer and a roll of duct tape. oldslapper Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 I wish there were more pictures. It looks like a pretty good job from the one image. I’m tempted to have a look as I’m near Taunton once a week....it’d be a fun twin neck. Quote
Paul S Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 The miracle, so far as I can see, is having a fitted hard case. Who knew such a thing existed? 1 Quote

Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Now you mention it I can see the resemblance Quote

Happy Jack Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 So anyway ... I bought it. Now, where's my supertanker? 3 Quote
Happy Jack Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 It's going to take a while to get the bass up to London from Taunton (with enormous and very generous assistance from those West Country twins @Woodinblack and @stewblack) so in the meantime here are the photos that the vendor sent me. I was very taken with the beautiful Hofner Senator leaning against a complete Vox T60 + matching cab. Turns out he bought them all new in 1963 ... Don't yet understand the two strap buttons, but I'm sure I will. Note that the finish is completely rattan-proof. This is not actually the first bass that I've owned with eight tuners. Unlined board ... mmmmmmmmmmmm. No, I don't know where or how I'm going to hang this thing either. The Case Of Doom. That makes me want to take a nap. 4 Quote
stewblack Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 I'm sure you'll be able to find a 400 dollar strap for it Jack. 1 Quote

Happy Jack Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Rumour has it that Yeovil has a new anchor. 1 Quote
Woodinblack Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I will say, it doesn't weigh a ton. it actually plays fairly well, i have never played a danelectro as the look is not for me but it works well. I played it through the vox, which I must say sounds very nice. As they are short scale necks, they actual instrument isn't as big as it looks. The two strap buttons don't have a point, it is just the original strap buttons from the donor instruments. Don't know what all the controls do yet apart from the switch which switches between necks. At the moment it is a double throw switch so you can't have both necks at the same time, which you might want to correct, as it means you can't do the standing behind someone playing the other neck thing like they do in game shows. Both my current bands are 3-piece so I'm not sure how that would work ... guess I need to find a new 4-piece or 5-piece project so that we can have a 'spare' musician when we need one. I'm glad you mentioned that they're shortscale necks. It never even occurred to me to ask, and I just assumed that these were longscale for some reason. Quote
