BlueMoon Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 An MIJ in Candy Apple Red from 1994 is being sold currently at BassDirect UK. Can't see the earth strap, so not sure if it's a 62RI though. https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Fender_MIJ_CAR.html (I am not affiliated with BassDirect, BTW). 1 Quote
Reggaebass Posted November 23, 2020 Author Posted November 23, 2020 Most of the Japanese jazzes I’ve seen have had the serial number on the bottom / back of the neck , this one has it on the headstock, is it a different model?https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Jazz-Bass-1988-89-MIJ-Vintage-White-good-condition-great-sound-and-feel-/324386546209?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292 Quote

The Japanese version of a Mexican Standard I suppose. Most of the MIJ basses I've owned were reissues of 50s, 60s or 70s Fender basses. 1 Quote

Thanks gjones, 👍 that would make sense as it has the grounding strip but doesn’t have the threaded bridge saddles or the strap button on the back of the headstock Quote

Frankly, I see spending the extra on one from the American continent as pure waste. That said, I have tended to go for the US variants as they have alder or ash bodies (for example PB-75US). I've two Japan-made, a P and a J (currently). Top quality. 1 Quote
Cairobill Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 Wonder if anyone knows the VAT/Duty percentage cost on an import from Ishibashi right now? Looking at a bass going for 350 quid. Shipping comes to a hefty 160 (estimated on the page) So if it's 510 for the purchase, what will be whacked on? Cheers, Nick Quote
Aidan63 Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 add 20% vat on the whole amount and in theory 2.7% on the instrument plus a collection charge 1 Quote
Steve Browning Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 I add about 25% to cover all the various costs. You're looking at about £640 on that I reckon. 1 Quote
Cairobill Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 Cheers all - does seem it works better the more expensive an instrument is... Quote
Geek99 Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 I highly rate the 62ri versions of both J and P made in Japan - jap market versions, not even the US suffix export model the P in particular I just could not put down 1 Quote

Played great, sounded great, looked great. Why, oh why...?!?!!?! Edited January 21, 2021 by hooky_lowdown Quote
