timmyo
Hi there - Iām a lapsed beginner player myself (ended up just an acoustic guitar player) but my son wants to learn bass. We have a teacher locally and obv I want to do the proud Dad thing and get him a practice amp - I may go for one practice amp and one headphone unit as he splits his time between my house and his Mums house)Ā ideally Iād go used to start off- any suggestions as to whatās worth looking for? Fender Rumble? Other things decent value and quality?Ā Ā (Iāve got an old Classic Vibe P he can use, but toying with picking up a CV Jazz for him thatās easier on the hands size-wise - any thoughts on that? thanks folksĀ
Dan Dare
SmallĀ Rumble combo worth considering. Is your son big enough not to struggle with 34" scale? If yes, the Classic Vibe sounds a decent starter bass for him. If not, I'd look for a shorter scale instrument. Something like a Squier Jaguar mayĀ do the trick.
grandad
There is a nice Fender Bronco 40 for sale here, oh, it's mine. I'm near Tamworth.

He'll be fine with 34 scale.Ā Any practice amp with aux line in, and headphone out, will serve him well. Ashdown Tourbus 10w or 15w worth putting on your list.Ā

Marvin
I'd go for the Rumble. I owned (and have always regretted selling) one of the larger ones, and they're nice combos. Great sound, good features at a good price.
Lozz196
Fender Rumble, Ashdown Perfect or Tourbus, Ampeg BA, all great little amps.
PaulThePlug
Headphone amps... the little plug in things arnt great... i found out... Fair few going down the Zoom Muliteffects with hesdphone out route...
casapete
Another +1 for the Rumble. The 15 or 25 ones are both ideal for your son. If you get a decent s/h one it will also hold its value when he wants something bigger too. š

TheGreek
When I started playing again after a 10 year break I bought myself a Gallien Kruger 110 Backline - still have it (though it doesn't get much use). Can't fault it...and I've seen them sell for Ā£60 on eBay.

Delberthot
I use a Fender Rumble 15 at home for practicing and it's more than capable for home volumes plus it looks cool with the cloth grill
BassmanPaul
A nice Ampeg B15N makes a fine practice amplifier. Well you DID ask! LOL
