Rob MacKillop Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 I really love these studies by John Patitucci. You have to keep counting in your head, and keep your foot tapping - great fun. Being based on C Melodic Minor, this could also be played over an Am7b5 chord. The bass is new to me, from Bass Direct for half price - a bargain. Stock flat wound strings, and going through a Phil Jones Double 4. Anyone else playing these studies? A black and white bass deserves a b&w video... 2 1 Quote
Dad3353 Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 I like the left foot metronome. I'm a drummer; I'm imagining the hi-hat pulse as you're playing. Good Stuff, once again, Rob; Really Good Stuff. 1 Quote
Rob MacKillop Posted September 6, 2020 Author Posted September 6, 2020 Cheers, Dad (it's REALLY weird saying that!). Quote
lowdown Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Well played, Rob. I agree about the book. My oldest has been using it for Double Bass practise these past few months and he is really enjoying working through the Etudes. Funny enough, I have just been listening to John Patitucci this afternoon. His upright playing on Dave Grusin's album, West Side Story, Is terrific.. Well worth a listen. 1 Quote
Rob MacKillop Posted September 6, 2020 Author Posted September 6, 2020 Cheers, lowdown. Your kid must be good if he can play these pieces. Quote

The Etudes are hard work on Upright, but he is starting to feel the benefits now. Although, they are a good work out for Electric as well...As your video shows..!! 1 Quote
Rob MacKillop Posted September 6, 2020 Author Posted September 6, 2020 They are. I've only done two so far, but will take on them all, I'm sure. 1 Quote
