kingforaday
Just saw a p bass clone come up local to me, no name on the headstock but this logo on the neck plate? I’ve never seen it before... any ideas?
Bassfinger
Back in the 70s and 80s Woolworths would sell guitars. Horrible finger slocing things. Probably not it, but I cant think of owt else.
Reggaebass
I’ve no idea, I’ve tried looking up, WL, ML, OWL,etc, and every logo on google
kingforaday
Yeah it just seems weird to me that a company I hadn’t heard of would go to the efforts of having a logo on there... but maybe I’m overthinking it!

Seeing the rest of the bass might help out the Jap experts on BC - it may be a generic bass with a distributors badging? That’s a long shot...
AndyTravis
Nope. Sorry guys. Maybe @Bassassin would have a clue?
Count Bassy
Hard to tell what the letters are - It can be read many ways, but (to my eyes) it's not a single 'W'.

Nah, never seen that before & it's not the sort of thing I'd expect on 70s or 80s MIJ. Not ringing any bells at all, I'm afraid.
yorks5stringer
Did WEM (Watkins Music LImited) do Basses, they did guitars...
ahpook
I think it starts with a T TWL maybe ?
Hellzero
Strange as this logo is a palindrome, so must have been well thought. I'll look in the Blue Book.
lemmywinks
Can only find IML as Instruments de Musique de Lyon, a French importer of Japanese guitars associated with the Eagle branding so seems like they would use that rather than IML. http://vintagestagg.altervista.org/907/index.html Looks like they did a P Bass copy but no other pictures, probably not linked. BreadBin
Looks like TML to me, but nothing forthcoming.
Chiliwailer
This website is vey impressive https://www.guitar-list.com/logos/M looks most like Marconi Lab - but it isn’t that (if it even is a M)

kingforaday
Interesting. I’m kinda glad it’s stumped everyone so far, I was half expecting the first reply to be “it’s a ‘..........’ obviously” and I’d feel daft.
madshadows
To me the plate reads either VML or VM ??? John 😎

WEM stood for 'Watkins Electric Music'. It looks like 'WML' to me too. Watkins did make guitars, first under the name of 'Watkins' and then 'Wilson'. I don't think the neck plates looked like that, though.

It's indeed also an ambigram, but it's firstly a palindrome as an ambigram isn't necessarily a palindrome. Got it ?
binky_bass
A palindrome is spelt the same forward as backward, this is not that.

Yes it is, turn it 180 degrees. And a palindrome is not spelt, but read the same from both ends, which means you can read in circles for infinite speeches. Yek, yek, yek. binky_bass
A palindrome is spelt/read the same backwards and forwards!!! That's what the word palindrome specifically means! This logo is not spelt or read the same backwards as forwards. But it is an ambigram. Take your correction, God knows you like to dish out corrections enough!
