Novice Question

What’s the opinion and consensus on which bass strings to use? I ordered two extra sets of D’Addario EXL170S for the short sale bass I bought. Any opinions or advice?

i personally swear by elixirs as I can never be bothered changing strings

You will find lots of threads with lots of opinions on lots of strings. Try and use the search facility although its a bit ropey.

I've found my string Nirvana - DR's all the way - unless of course we're talking flats in which case it's LaBellas!

Its all in the hard pads on yer fingers. If you are getting good your fingers will find a tone you like. Use what you can afford or steal.

I like the d'Addarios that you have, however, I prefer a lighter gauge (I play shorter scale basses most of the time). I have some handwound strings from Newtone but they're expensive. For ligher gauge 'cheap' strings, I use four from a set of d'Addario Jerry Jones Barritone strings - the tension is very light (just how I like it). I can't remember the gauges off the top of my head but can find out if you're interested

I am loving the feel and sound of Ernie Ball regular slinky strings on my Precision bass at the mo.

I just use whatever strings come with the bass! Changing strings is an effort. Effort = bad.

urgh, not a fan of ernie balls, horrible feel.

Also, noone make a sesame street joke or the innuendo police will strike!
