sixshooter
The project has started..... The body has lost a bit of weight and has started to take shape... A bit more sealing and sanding and it will be ready for a paint job.
mathewsanchez
Nice work. And the grain in that wood is lovely, you should keep it a natural finish. Can't help but feel the original yellowish paint job is a bit much.

josh3184
so what are the differences between a 51 and 55 then?
sixshooter
so what are the differences between a 51 and 55 then?
55 has the cut away for those of us with a more fuller figure! But it's not going to be any old 55, no its going to have all the electrics replaced, the neck nitro finish, the body resprayed and some of the hardware changed. And then its going to have a light relic.

Delberthot
That's exactly what I was going to get Martin Sims to do with the 2 tone '51 reissue that i had before i decided to go down the Warmoth route. Except mine would've been Daphne Blue nitro - don't know I ended up going with gold.
GreeneKing
I was getting really enthusiastic until the word 'relic' came along. Each to their own of course but how about using it for a few years and the relicing will be. 1. Genuine 2. Free Just a thought.

The colour of the paint will be aged, and the nitro will be crazed. The rest will come with use. A bit like this... Delberthot
Don't joke- some Jack Danny had done that to the Tele bass that I sold to Beedster before I got it.
budget bassist
a 70's tele bass is one thing, a '51 precision is something totally different!

Bought from a fellow Basschatter only a short while ago especially for this task. It should have the paint job done now so I will get some photo's up end of this week. sixshooter
Thanks guy's, I am very happy with the colour, the control cavity had to be enlarged so that it could take the larger CTS pots, and the Bass has lost a fair bit of weight due to the bodywork re-construction. We are trying out a new process to age the Bass so it will be interesting to see how it turns out. Hopefully more photo's next week.

Would have saved all the labour involved in stripping the "mustard" off and re-shaping the body.
