Dubs Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Like this - http://www.ups.com/content/gb/en/shipping/..._added/cod.html I’ve been asked to use this to ship a bass to someone new to BassChat and I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of it? It seems legit and fairly safe but I was just a bit concerned about the part that says “The shipper assumes all risk related to the collection of the payment, including non-payment, insufficient funds, and forgery” – worst case scenario? This feels like a leap of faith as I’ve never used a service like this before and my buyer has only been a member of BC for 3 days. I just need someone to tell me that this is totally safe and nothing can go wrong…please… Quote
Platypus Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Someone suggested using this very service recently when I was selling my Smith. I had a look and then told them to jog on. Its not something I'd get involved in.. Quote

Can't remember the last time I used COD...........nah, walk away matey Quote
MB1 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 (edited) MB1. "Just walk away Rene!"...This looks like youll be out of pocket ,if for any reason, they change there mind about the bass, or dont have enough money to pay for it....Minimise your risk mate. Edited March 16, 2009 by MB1 Quote
Buzz Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Cash COD? I know they're good for you, but it's no wonder they're over fished if they give up cash as well. I always wondered why fishermen have the look of smug gits beneath their yellow coats. Quote
bassbloke Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Just use an escrow service - much easier. Quote
Larmer Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 (edited) I would tell him/her to pay all the fees upfront, if the bass would be delivered back to you and not paid. (If this is sounds like an option to you) Edited March 18, 2009 by Larmer Quote
cytania Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Strikes me there's huge potential for the buyer to claim 'I never recieved the item. Some imposter must have met the UPS man at my door and given them a forged cheque'. Unless UPS can give more detail of how they check identity or verify cheques before goods are passed over I'd say avoid COD. Quote
thepurpleblob Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 "The shipper assumes all risk related to the collection of the payment, including non-payment, insufficient funds, and forgery." That would be quite enough to put me off. Quote
Dubs Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 Thanks for everyone’s input. COD is out the window – I’ve agreed to deliver the bass myself for a fee to cover petrol and my time. This suits me down to the ground Quote
