For me, Stephen Bishop is one of those singers blessed with a rare quality and purity of tone to their voice. And he writes flippin' good songs, too! (Guest appearance by Chaka Khan).

The short opener includes Ray Brown on upright bass and 'Bish' playing acoustic guitar and also 'tromblone'!
The follow-on track includes vocal harmonies from THE voice - Michael McDonald.

Couple more from me.

First off, another much-covered song in a version most won't have heard:

Second up, a Beatles clasic covered by a bass singer with an extraordinary vocal range. Bass singers rarely get the credit they deserve IMHO (much like bass players of course :)), but here's what a good one can do when he steps into the spotlight:

Great version of "When A Man Loves A Woman". Superb voices as usual. But Geoff Castellucci's "Blackbird" is just mind-blowing and should definitely be played through decent speakers! :)

Another one from me.

I'm not normally a fan of popular musicians covering classical material (or vice versa) but as always there's the exception that proves the rule...

(Fun fact: the band won an Emmy for this performance):

We rehearse at Unit One Studios in Colchester, which is run by the most excellent (and annoyingly talented 😉) Wayne and Heidi in this video. Every now and then we'll hear a bit of Heidi - damn, she's good.

Much covered song, but a cracking version.

Some great Reggae/Rocksteady/Ska singers too...

Could go on all day but I'll leave one of the best and most underrated until last, Slim Smith.
