always thought this was a great live performance, and the bloke went on to sing for Jefferson Starship. Apparently there's been some videos from Vocal Coaches who use this as a template for control (or something)..

Two astonishing vocal performances - I alternate between preferring George Benson's version and Whitney's. Hers is more perfect and polished but his (despite being maybe a touch 'pitchy' to my ears ) has that indefinable something. I remember hearing it for the first time when working in music retail in 1977 and it stopped me dead.

Teddy Pendergrass's voice is yet another one that makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Amazing

Also apologies for posting a bit more Luther - don't let Jools Holland put you off from listening, this performance is fantastic.

Such a shame she couldn't live on... 🤔

I still can't listen to her. Whenever I hear her voice around now it just makes me feel gutted. She hadn't even begun to peak as an artist.

A mate sent me this on Facebook and it blew me away!

I had no idea she could sing so well and effortlessly. Massive pipes!

No, José! 😂

It was a covers fundraiser a few days ago.

I'm a sucker for the soul vocal groups of the 70s on the likes of the Philly roster. The harmonies, the suits and the moves 👌.Here are two classics hard to beat for tunage, moves and the vocal performances. Oh and the bass lines ain't bad either.

Yeah no doubt, Whitney's version is great. But personally, I love Benson's raw passion more, and this may sound odd.. I prefer the key..!!

If you're going Philly you are pushing on an open door! The wonderful Lou Rawls:

In truth this is the isolated vocal tracks, rather than an actual acapella version per se. Not necessarily the greatest individual voices in the world, but the harmonies and arrangement are just gorgeous.

They weren't all that good. nimportequoi.gif.71eb96ef6ab0ce83863c1c42e8332227.gif.3d82ab93e53ec81b8c29341fa36ee9f1.gif

Couple more from me:

First off, Bonnie Raitt. Bit of a personal favourite, this:

Enya. I'm not really a fan of her style, but she can certainly sing. This was released as a single at about the same time as Bros did the most godawful tacky take on the song that you could ever wish to inflict on anybody:

Thom Yorke can be a bit hit and miss, particularly on the busier stuff. This is superb though (particularly the last minute or so)

It’s all about tone isn’t it. There are really good singers, that can hit all the notes, but I just can’t take to them - Miley Cyrus springs to mind.

And others that are more limited that i much prefer to listen to.

speaking of tone, I’ve always loved Dusty springfields voice, so cool & unique in a soul setting
