I want to say AHA's Take on Me because at the time the drawing animation was so unique..., a few others are so great.... But no as always I go with the funk. Its early 90's Prince. Not for young ears please. When I first watched this vid I was in my late 20's and it properly blew me away as someone who thinks about music. Ive always been aware of Prince's vocal range, .apparently he could sing through 6 octaves, He brings it low down on this cracker. Anyways enough of my babbling. Whats yours.?

Great shout. Epic video and song.

Michael Jackson videos were always a world event as a kid. Me and my brother owned the Thriller VHS - full 13min version, with John Landis 'Making of' . Watched it 1000's of times, still enjoy it today.

Masked Jackal by Coroner. It made a big impression on me as a young lad and I still love seeing Ron's fingers flying around the fretboard while he sings at the same time.

The guy who did Take on Me by Aha was a chap called Steve Barron, Limelight Film and Video.........I worked in that video (I'm sat in the cafe at the start)

I'm a big fan of the The Cure videos that they did with Tim Pope

Over lockdown my band has been making videos and we have definitely been influenced by that style (budget £27!)

If you've never seen it, it's very much 'of its time', but it's all tongue in cheek and great fun and hilarious. And the dancing out of time during the chorus.....And Eddie's solo 🧡🧡🧡

I always loved how this was shot, the chiaroscuro style, the face on face projections, just mood of it, and how it fits (to me) with the tone of the vocals. Sure there's clichés, but hey, it was that era. I'm guessing it wasn't a huge budget either.

On an even tighter budget, I've always loved this one. Mostly filmed in an old Land Rover. It was the first thing that sprang to mind when I first saw @Cat Burrito's awesome budget vid. Both show that it's more about taste and imagination than big bucks.

Love this.

Yeah, I love that one too.

also this

Zappa did a video using similar animation which was way more out there, I wonder if that’s where Peter Gabriel got his inspiration

hmmm  not sure maybe some rap/hip hop vid featuring lots of twerking 😉 like Sir Mix-A-Lot's Baby Got Back. I won't put up a link as it might get taken down. The rhymes are funny with tongue firmly embedded in cheek
