Nail Soup Posted October 29, 2020 Posted October 29, 2020 I'm thinking of getting an Akai Mini play. I can use it as Midi controller at home, and as a live-sounds keyboard for simple lines in a band. Any opinions? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Akai-Professional-Mini-Built-board/dp/B07HDB12FM/ref=sr_1_3?adgrpid=60375068365&dchild=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw0On8BRAgEiwAincsHAvFl7qYrMsSbMtlSLCCNxjP3x3nonPlPkw3tyXKsaygz2LVieMbxhoC2pQQAvD_BwE&hvadid=310780406794&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=1006687&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=3059770512213661488&hvtargid=kwd-538938279260&hydadcr=27309_1732171&keywords=akai+mini+play&qid=1604007504&sr=8-3&tag=googhydr-21 Quote
Woodinblack Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Haven't used one but they seem reasonably well rated for the price. I always wanted a triton taktile to do that sort of thing, but that is a lot more money again, and to be fair, I have quite a lot of things that could be used as a master keyboard! 1 Quote
skidder652003 Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 I've looked at reviews and they say the built- in sounds aren't very good, I believe there are better options out there. Quote

Cheers! I didn’t see any alternatives when I searched, but that might be my lack of knowledge. Probably will not use the internal sounds much just two or three songs in my punk covers band. Still pondering! Quote

RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 Fwiw, I have the mpk mini 1 . Really good with GarageBand , and. works with iPad if you have the camera connection kit . The mpk mini play has extra bundles to play with , and apparently you can use that without a computer straight out of the box should you wish . I'm thinking of getting the mini play, or the mini mk 3 . . These midi controllers have improved and upgraded in a short time . 1 Quote
Nail Soup Posted December 19, 2020 Author Posted December 19, 2020 Well, finally pulled the trigger. Pretty good so far... the sounds are good enough for what I need in the band, and the MIDI is good enough for what I need at home. I don't need my 61 key midi controller now, which was a pain to store and use. Happy with it in test mode..... now to use it for real. I'll do a home recording with it...... but don't know when I'll get to try it with the band. Quote
