Frank Blank
Definitely Mick Karn, read about him doing the gig in his autobiography. Also if you look here... Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute (1988 TV Special) ...Mick Karn is in the cast & crew credits. visog
Wow... not his usual type of gig. No phwerps or parps on his Wal here.
40hz
Paul Carrack has got a hell of a set of pipes on him. Edited November 1, 2020 by 40hz
fleabag
I think most of us could ID Karn playing bass, even if the camera only focused a close up on his hands. He has very a unique plucking and fretting system
casapete
I remember watching this concert on TV. I think it was Phil Collins and Midge Ure who put together a band to back quite a few of the singers who performed as well as Paul Carrack - Tony Hadley, Paul Young etc.
toneknob
Yep, definitely Mick Karn. Here's another from the same day

He did, but it was earlier than that in 1981. He left Squeeze in 1982 and by the late 80’s was involved with Mike and the Mechanics. Think he rejoined Squeeze briefly in the early 90’s too. 😊
Dood
Look up The Princes Trust Concert, 1988, same band and lots of lovely Karnal Knowledge. Oh and check out John Deacon playing Mick’s bass with Joe Cocker! Edited November 1, 2020 by Dood
yorks5stringer
I remember seeing Paul Carrack with Ace in 1974 or75 when 'How Long' was released.

Once heard that the song was not about an unfaithful relationship but apparently written about the bassist moonlighting with another band who were trying to get him to leave Ace. Don’t know how true this is mind.

Does that count as infidelity?😁
