I was foolish enough to click on one of the pro Trump you tube blogs so I've suddenly received a number in my You Tube feed - I read one which had some recent Trump clips (the ones where he's at a little desk with a huge badge on it, and seemingly wearing, what the Americans call a diaper (adult nappy in English) under his suit. So here's the gen:- 1) Trump is taking personal credit for all vaccines wherever they come from 2) The democrats are all criminals who should be locked up 3) Joe Biden couldn't possibly have received so many votes - and some of them may be from illegal immigrants 😏 4) God (and lots of evangelists who may be considered certifiable in other countries) are on Trump's side 5) Any vote for the democrats is suspicious and may represent voting fraud (without any evidence but rhetoric and unsubstantiated allegation and the republicans couldn't possibly have received any corrupt or fraudulent votes) Any other view is fake news and a conspiracy (and there is no way Trump is trying to stage a coup d'etat as per the sort of corrupt dictators in some smaller countries have done in the past). So there is the source of all the vaccines proposed 👍😂

Mind you, it isn't all just the tories, Labour sold quite a few bits of it off. If you go for treatment for a lot of things now you will find you are going to some industrial estate or other complex to get it done from a company. Obviously Trump didn't know much at all, but his people did nothing wrong with using the private sector if they do it better and cheaper, the fact they make a profit shouldn't be the issue. Ideology shouldn't get in the way of getting the best deal for the tax payer, When the term NHS for sale is used, the implication is that it won't be free at the point of use, as far as I know none of the main parties have ever been close to saying that

Ideology should never get in the way of getting the best deal for the tax payer. Whatever that ideology is. But this is veering away from the subject at hand so I won't go any further with it. They have to do everything a service does, but make a profit on top. Look at our shambles of a private rail network. The highest rail prices in Europe by a long long way, and unreliable. A service should be just that, not an excuse for some company to make millions that end up in an offshore account. Dominic Raab said, a well funded NHS is a fantasy. Or some such. Not all private healthcare does - Nuffield Health for example, pretty sure being a charity they are not for profit, all income is reinvested into the service they provide. Being a charity and not for profit is a million miles away from a private company that is in business for one reason only, to make as much money as possible.
Cuzzie
I get you on that, but the chat was about private providers providing services for NHS patients. It was just to illustrate that when this happens not all private providers do this to make a profit. Yes they want to make money, but this money is at least Re-invested into healthcare not to line profits, and the deal struck between Nuffield and NHS when the hospital was requisitioned for Covid times was only for what it cost to run the hospital, no more, and for a long time they were restricted from any non NHS activities even if they had empty space. It’s just an example where things are not always bad in the private sector

Blimey you do live in a sheltered world. Where do you think a big proportion of our taxes comes from to fund our public services? Perhaps start with profitable private sector companies paying the wages of millions of individuals who pay income tax and NI and VAT on stuff they buy; and the companies, themselves, pay corporation tax on their profits. The alternative is Communism where the State does everything. I think you'll find it wasn't that popular. They also pay poverty wages and the taxpayer, you and I, take up the slack with benefits paid for from our taxes. So we subsidise the millionaires. So communism is the only alternative? Get real, socialism is the answer. The essentials need to be state owned, gas, water, electric, health, public transport etc, everything else open to private enterprise. 1
