samlowend Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Is this Fender real it has a low price of £155 https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/fender-3-hole-neck-plate-presision-bass.-/1389773475 Quote
JvJazz83 Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 I am no expert by a long shot, but I do not think that's a real fender Precision. If I remember correctly, the P-bass was never made with a 3 bolt neck plate (it could be the other way around...). the headstock decal looks strange to me, but I'm not sure about this. The ashtray bridge cover looks like it was made for a jazz... I might be very wrong about this, but choose to stick my head out anyway. Quote
Pea Turgh Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Could just be the lighting, but also looks like the body has been sanded quite unevenly. Wasn’t the three bolt neck a 70’s thing? I agree the decal looks a bit wonky. What if someone’s just done a poor job of refinishing though?! Worth a look if you’re local? Quote
samlowend Posted November 13, 2020 Author Posted November 13, 2020 Thanks for the info. I know and I haven't been able to find a p bass with rectangular inlays except for the custom shop ones. Quote
OliverBlackman Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Definitely not fender, maybe vintage Japanese or Korean? Quote

Doctor J Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 The ad title is FENDER 3 HOLE NECK PLATE, PRESISION BASS Nowhere is it claimed the bass is a Fender, or even the bass is a Precision for that matter, and rightly so. It's a Fender 3 hole neck plate. The rest? Well, I can tell you what it isn't 😉 2 Quote
yorks5stringer Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Yes, it's a genuine Fender 3 hole neck plate, if you look closely there's a small hole below the single neck screw where an allen key goes in for the micro-tilt mechanism. And as others have said, never used on a Precision but I guess at £155 it's not puporting to be a 72 P Bass anyway, although the wording may have you believe otherwise....? Quote
Reggaebass Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Headstock logo doesn’t look right, and it might be the picture but it looks like a split in the body near the neck pocket Quote
Bassassin Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 (edited) Not a Fender, not vintage. Looks like a bitsa to me, no idea what's under the covers (could be a P/J with that big Jazz ashtray), depending what the parts are it might be a decent deal for £155, especially if you could haggle down a bit. On the other hand if it's built from cheap tat bits (which the tuners suggest it might be), you'd be better off with something like a Harley Benton for the same sort of money. Also: "I just started playing and I was given this" says the seller, snapping pics of the bass in his room containing rackmounted mixers, flightcases, a Peavey 4x10 cab and another bass... Hmm. mcnach Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 If you had a genuine Fender, would you sell it for less than a Squier? Hard pass. Quote

So it must be a genuine 3 bolt neck which again disqualifies it being a Fender 1 Quote
prowla Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 It is a real problem, all these fake fenders. Quote
lemmywinks Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Just spotted it on FB, seller admits it's a copy here: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/664034974500426/ Quote
prowla Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 "I would swop for a decent.fender telecaster"... ...I bet you would! Quote
Newfoundfreedom Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 So on Gumtree he says, just started playing and was given this. On his Facebook add he says he's had it for years. This bloke couldn't lie straight in bed. Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. 2 1 Quote
