davidwatts
Hello Everyone, Has anyone come across the Anniversary brand of bass or guitar. There is a Rick 4001 bass copy and a 330 and 325 guitar copy on ebay at the moment bearing the brand name on the TRC. Can anyone enlighten me? Appreciate any info, thanks. alexclaber
Rickenbacker copies, what a legal quagmire! Alex
Musky
Strange. I'm sure that was the same bass that was up a few days ago but calling itself a Harmony. It's sure to be pulled very quickly for using the R word in the title anyway. If you're looking for a Rickenfaker you should have a word with Nick - he's got a rather nice Maya he's trying to shift at the moment. Anyway - These Anniversary copies appeared on the RickResource board a week or two back, no pics of the 4003 type but the g*it*rs looked like contemporary generic Chinese or Korean copies, ie competent but uninspiring & largely overpriced for what they are. Just looked at this & it does look identical to the Harmony that was up earlier. Realistically, £360 is probably as good as it will get for a Rick copy, new or vintage. This looks very similar to the Rockinbetters & Shines, & at least it features a reasonable attempt at Rick hardware & pups, unlike the Indie with its Fender type bridge & J pup hiding under its cover. Wouldn't mind a proper look at one of these. Jon.
Machines
Saw 2 of these in Express Music in Solihull, alas they were in the window and I saw them on my way out. Looked nice though - definitely wanted to try one out, maybe next time.
davidwatts
Many thanks for the replies. The Anniversary bass got snapped up this afternoon on a Buy It Now so my search continues. There is a Shaftesbury Rick copy (also on Ebay) at the moment; anyone got experience of this make? I know it probably dates back to the 70's or 80's so I wonder (a) if it sounds anything lke a real Rick and (b) what is likely to be worn out on a bass of that age. Input appreciated, thanks again. Musky
You might like to take a look at the Rickenfaker thread - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=270 It's quite long so you can use the search box at the bottom of the page to search within the thread. The wear you'll find will be fairly typical of any old bass - pots, frets and finish. Pots aren't a problem as they can be cleaned/replaced as necessary. The main problem you're likely to find is a high action with any of the through neck copies. The combination of the bridge design and fixed neck can make adjustment impossible unless you fancy routing under the bridge and modifying the bridge pickup surround.
