markdavid
Hi , Does anybody know of any other bass that sounds like the DeArmond Ashbory Bass , I love the sound of this Bass http://www.frozencloudmusic.com/~chrishisc...itar%20samples/ but I know I could not adapt to the 18" scale. Any Suggestions
G-77
it not the scale that is the problem , it getting used to the big fat Rubber Strings and how they behave! If you are able to get to the bash tomorrow i will have mine with me.
Jean-Luc Pickguard
It was designed to emulate the sound of an acoustic upright. I'm not sure if its more or less easy to adapt to a 43" scale
BigRedX
With a bit of experimentation with strings and EQ settings you should be able to get a similar sound out of a Lightwave Bass.
BassBod
Simple answer no - its the soft rubber strings/piezo. But as noted, they can be a pain to intonate and keep in tune (maybe the current Ashburys are better, with geared tuners?.....) BB
OutToPlayJazz
A current Ashboury sounds a nice & cheap alternative to a double bass or an EUB.
Alun
Hi , Does anybody know of any other bass that sounds like the DeArmond Ashbory Bass , I love the sound of this Bass http://www.frozencloudmusic.com/~chrishisc...itar%20samples/ but I know I could not adapt to the 18" scale. Any Suggestions
Hee hee, I recorded that and had forgotten all about it! They're not too bad to play once you get used to them. Regarding tuning, intonation is harder AND easier in a way as rolling your finger gives you about a semitone's woth of adjustment so "zeroing in" on a pitch is a little easier. That was recorded with an early 2000s one which has got the "normal" guitar type tuners which hold their tuning pretty well. The biggest tuning issue is the G strings tendency to go flat ( or snap!) in transit. The closest I've got with any other bass is my Alden violin bass with flatwounds, played over the end of the fretboard but it's not the same really.
