Looking to split one midi channel in to 2 or 3 with hardware.

I’m looking for a small box (not rack box) that will take a single midi channel input, and output the signal on multiple midi channels using just a single cable. 2 out is fine, moire is better. This is to use a master keyboard to trigger some of the sounds on my Yamaha MODX. My master keyboard will only transmit on one channel, and the MODX has its midi channels set in stone for the parts.

I dont want to go down the software with ipad route, so something like the Event Processor plus looks ideal, but a bit pricy for what I’m trying to achieve.

Anyone seen anything cheaper (less than £150). I dont mind if its part of something else rather than a dedicated midi box.

I take it you need to be able specify specific MIDI channels for the MODX. Do you need to set keyboard splits too?

There used a plethora of stand-alone devices for manipulating MIDI data, but since most people have a computer to Tablet somewhere in their set up the need has all but disappeared.

With this in mind have a look at second-hand devices from either Philip Rees and Kenton to see if there is something they made in the past that will do what you want.

Thanks for the reply. I dont need to specify the channels, although that would be useful.

The way the MODX works is part 1 is channel 1, part two channel 2 etc. I can move the sounds around to different parts, so they aren’t set in stone. Ill just disable the keyboard control for the midi controlled parts.

I’m using splits already, but wanted to use a midi keyboard so i can use the full range of each sound and stop using the splits. Its only basic Piano/organ with Brass on the midi keyboard. Nothing fancy and i want everything controlled from the MODX, except maybe pitch bend and mod,  so no need for mapping controller stuff etc.

Ill look at those you mentioned.

If you are handy, this sounds perfect for arduino.

Ha, ive just brought my son a set of add ons for that system for Christmas.. Ill get him to build me something 😂

Actually i think ive sort of cracked it. I have an old Korg N5 that I didn’t want to use, but apparently it will transmit on 32 midi channels. All i need is a normal Midi cable and to program it so its transmitting on the right channels. Its not ideal, i was hoping I could use a much lighter keyboard, but it will do until i find something more suitable.
