Yes, the hydrive 4x10 is a great cab. Very loud and punchy and much smaller and lighter than you would think. That's the same set up I had and it was really really good. The hydrive (usually) has wheels on it too.

See now I’ve started looking at Ampeg SVTs......a 4 or a 7.....worth the hype or an expensive can of woe and misery? Should I reign in the GAS and stick with the LH or is there something else around the 800-1000w, maximum of £600 new or used I should go for? Finger style only for rock and pop. Got to be reliable.
My head says the LH1000 and have change for a large 800-1000w cab maybe 611 or 810 to get most out of it but then I look at the Genzs, Mesas, Ampeg and the like and think blow the lot on a more expensive used amp. I’ve loved the sound of a Blackstar Unity 500 combo I had and I could get a new Unity 700 Elite head for the money but it’s not been on the market long so is it reliable??? I want classic rock grunt but able to clean it up a little for a bit of pop. My TC BH500 to me has the best of both worlds with the tube tone and I get the TC watts v. real watts argument hence wanting something with the possibility of a bit more oomph but I do like the sound of it. Apart from TC who is closest to that sort of tone brand wise? I am open to any suggestions or advice...

So I have decided to go with a Genz Streamliner 900 that a fellow BCer was advertising on here and hopefully NAD will be a week today. I think that will give me the tone I’m looking for. Thanks again for everyone’s advice.

Great amps. I’ve gigged them a lot in the past and found that they make a superb power amplifier for running other gear like effects and preamps in to.

I did upgrade the valve in mine too. Not that you need to, mostly but I had a really nice set of premium ECC83’s spare.

Hi mate. Assume that was running a preamp straight into the effects return ?

Yes and no, it depends on what is being plugged in. If you set the EQ “flat” - iirc is 2-10-2? Then you have a clean power amp with some extra level matching capabilities. The great thing about the LH amplifiers is that the master volume control is actually more like the gain control on a non-master volume amplifier. Go straight in to the “passive” input and wind the level up to taste, lots of clean power on tap.

A good quality super low noise drive tested valve with lots of headroom is a nice upgrade too.

Well my plan was to plug a line out from much less powerful class D amp with a preamp that I adore into the effects return on the LH1000, to get the best of both.

What I'm after is the preamp I love (Reidmar) with a powerful class AB power amp. Basically I want the 802 but can't afford it 😬

Class D though init. Also, one of the bits I love is the bright knob, which none of the pedals have (I know there's a switch but clearly you can't control the amount).

The 802 is an extraordinary beast for sure! How about a TD650 / TD660? The Hartke thing will work very well either with the Reidmar head or the EBS Microbass, I’m sure.

Maybe I'm a massive headroom/power junky, but I found the TD650 to be just slightly lacking in power compared to what I'm used to...and that was running at 2ohms.
