Not me, but our guitarist has been having amp problems for the last three or four gigs (thought it was sorted but it wasn't) and it was so bad at one that he switched to the keyboard player's Roland combo and she got plugged into the PA.

I do take a backup amp for the covers band (the ceilidh band has a PA that I'd just go straight into if necessary) - main amp is a Superfly, backup is one of those little Crate Powerblocks with a lead to bypass the built-in distortion.

I think it's part of the "eggs in one basket" argument against combos.

I'd expect the amp to be more likely to pop than a driver so carrying an extra head is a bit more practical than a whole extra combo.

Not sure if everyone playing pub-type gigs always has a PA up to acting as the only bass amplification.
