Ashdown Rootmaster RM owners club

Guest BassAdder27

HI guys, i would like to buy a 210 Ashdown combo. I hesitate between an ABM Neo C210 combo and the new RM500 C210 EVO II combo. Price is the same (ABM is ised, RM is new).

What do you think is the better combo, for sound only?

I had some cabs with neodynium speakers in the past but didn't like the sound, Pro Neo speakers are good?

Thanks

I have recently purchased an RM500 C210 Evo II combo. Used it for its first gig the other night, sitting on an Ashdown 115 ext cab. Holy moly! Seemed fairly quiet on stage but when I walked out front with my wireless, it was loo loud for the balance. I ended up with the gain on 10 o'çlock and the master a tad over 9 oçlock. Don't think I'll be needing the ext cab very often! Used the sub harmonic on one song and the drive on one song, and they sounded pretty good. Happy camper here.

I’m still loving my RM800Evo2 but I have such bad gas for the new ABM Evo 5 that I’m going to sell the RM so I can start saving for the big boy.

You know this makes sense.

Well .. I had briefly the EVO 5 and didn’t find anything better than my EVO IV 600 .. the extra watts are negligible and the tone was 100% a match to my ABM600

I don’t personally think it’s worth the extra cost but .. it does look very nice

Apparently I does have a new quiet / reactive fan system though. Not sure that has made it into the ABM iv.

New RM500 Evo II owner here.

Just got my head last week and after working through the headphone button issue, it sounds fantastic.

I have a couple of questions. Is any 2 button latching footswitch ok for the drive and sub?

Also, has anyone sorted out the output dial detents issue? I click is too quiet for home, 2 clicks is thunderous!

I'm loving the sound of this amp, I'm looking forward to playing it in anger.

As long as they are latching switches, any should be fine.

I had a Neewer NW202 which I sold on here earlier in the year. I checked with Dave Green and he confirmed it was OK but I had to disconnect the LED's.

I haven’t owned anything other than a small 15w practice combo since the first Covid lockdown, when I thought I was done playing.

I got back playing 18 months ago and my sax player very kindly let me use a Trace combo, but sadly it had a Bipolar Bear board and died a few weeks back. So time to step up and buy a new amp!

I’ve been through some budget and expensive rigs over the years and the past 18months has thought me that expensive doesn’t always mean good (for me at least).

Given the huge amount of positive feedback for Ashdown and their customer service, and this thread, I plumped for a nice secondhand Rootmaster setup. I’m on the lookout for another 2x10 or 15 cab, can’t decide which, but this will do for now. Well made and nice weight, top marks to Ashdown and an absolute bargain.

Lovely!

How do you find the cab? I'm looking for a (cheap) partner for my RM800 and they sometimes pop up.

I have only used the cab at home but sounds really nice so far. Nice top end and good response, but think I’d like another one or a 15 to go with it for gigs so I’m not pushing it too hard. I play in a 7 piece with brass, so a lot to fight through.

Cool.

I'd love your insights after a full band run. I'm constantly looking at old and weird solutions. The RM cab would just be easy if it's good.

I sent mine into Ashdown and Dave swapped the volume pot for a smooth one for me.

Mine ended up going back a number of times as the issue kept coming back.

Dave eventually swapped it for an RM800!

Weirdly, I don't find the detents an issue on the 800.

I've just ordered an RM 800 EVO II direct from Ashdown. It's B Stock, and therefore quite a bit cheaper than others.

It will be my first time playing an Ashdown, so I'm looking forward to seeing  how it sounds.

Nice one Rob, I’ve got the 500 which apart from the power is the same I think, I had ashdown for years but I’m now ampeg apart from this, I find them a very versatile amp and really like the shape option , very quiet fan too, look forward to hearing what you think

I really liked my RM800

Only criticism ( and I told Ashdown) was the tiny feet that are not even fitted to the corners !

It meant in some cabs with a top handle the feet were in the handle

RM500 was different
