I am finding this absolutely fascinating!  So many different styles.  So many I have never heard before.  Or want to hear again!  😂

Here is another that hasn't popped up featuring, again, our very own @neilmurraybass

Blimey that's good! 😲

next would be Reba's If I fell the version we used to do in our band

Hadn't heard this in ages - love the way they swap the melody line around, and the sublime guitar solo as well.

Got me thinking of country stuff - this is one of my favourites from Emmylou.

The Dolly Parton cover of Help! sounds exactly as you would expect it to.

Ditto The Damned cover of Help!

Ditto the Oasis cover of I Am The Walrus.

Ditto the Cilla Black cover of Norwegian Wood.

None of them are the equal of the Sisters Of Mercy cover of Dolly Parton's Jolene, so I've spared clogging up the thread with unnecessary links

Now that is a classic!

I've just remembered this one.  I saw Ray perform it on the old Andy Williams show where Ray was on video singing all the parts.  He does All the vocals and plays some of the instruments - too clever by half.

This one's worth watching just for the facial expressions!

I do remember a slow, soulful, version of this song back in the day but cannot remember who did it.  I'll keep looking.

Then just when you think it couldn't get any worse!

Elma Cogan

Not saying it's my favourite necessarily but I still remember watching this as it was broadcast and being quite mesmerised.

What a shame that Duran Duran's Instant Karma and Megadeth's My Sweet Lord are outside the boundaries of this thread

3/4 Time until the chorus .

God Lord I had forgotten this.  My sister bought the album and played it to death.  And, earlier Mas Que Nada.

Wow!

That's just so 'nice'..

It's like a South American proto-ABBA/Carpenters/Mike Flowers Pops mash-up..

I saw a band in the late eighties/ early nineties called detritus.
they used to do their version of help in a post

Metallica thrash kind of style. Unfortunately it isn’t held for posterity on YouTube 😢

It was thoroughly enjoyable though.

you don't get many cover version of Help, it's really hard to sing, that high note "Won't you PLEASE help me" is out of the range of most singers

unless you alter the melody of course

Heard this on the radio last night, first time for ages, not the worst-ever cover of a song...

Beatles cover, though? :)

(not that this was the first recording of it either)

Fair point.

I'm pretty sure I knew that it wasn't a Beatles' original but my memory failed me. Thanks for keeping me right.

I'm assuming that many of my Basschat friends are genuinely posting cover versions that they genuinely like, and that they genuinely want to share them with their friends.

That said, most of the versions posted above are such complete and utter **** that I am genuinely staggered that anyone would waste a few electrons on posting them anywhere except to Trump supporters they're trying to wind up.

I guess you would be including the Pixies version of "Honey Pie" (which I posted) in that statement

I do genuinely love the Pixies version.......but had never heard the Beatles version until 5 minutes before posting here. Can't say I'm that keen on the Beatles version, but I guess if you like the Beatles version then the Pixies version would sound bad.

here's SRV covering 'Taxman

I've always liked Taxman musically but I always feel conflicted because I don't like the lyrics.

So It's good that SRV has made a version which removes the conflict 😉!
