Got me thinking of country stuff - this is one of my favourites from Emmylou. 2 Quote
casapete Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Also by Emmylou, this gem - beautiful guitar solo from one of the stellar players on this album, (possibly Amos Garrett.) 1 Quote
Guest Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 The Dolly Parton cover of Help! sounds exactly as you would expect it to. Ditto The Damned cover of Help! Ditto the Oasis cover of I Am The Walrus. Ditto the Cilla Black cover of Norwegian Wood. None of them are the equal of the Sisters Of Mercy cover of Dolly Parton's Jolene, so I've spared clogging up the thread with unnecessary links Quote

wateroftyne Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 (edited) Always liked this, too. Edited January 8, 2021 by wateroftyne 2 Quote
LeftyP Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 I've just remembered this one. I saw Ray perform it on the old Andy Williams show where Ray was on video singing all the parts. He does All the vocals and plays some of the instruments - too clever by half. Quote
Jonesy Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 I like this cover too. Although maybe it should be renamed 'While my guitar bawls in a rage' 😂 2 Quote

I do remember a slow, soulful, version of this song back in the day but cannot remember who did it. I'll keep looking. Then just when you think it couldn't get any worse! Elma Cogan Quote
KevB Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 (edited) Not saying it's my favourite necessarily but I still remember watching this as it was broadcast and being quite mesmerised. Edited January 21, 2021 by KevB 1 Quote
Guest Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 What a shame that Duran Duran's Instant Karma and Megadeth's My Sweet Lord are outside the boundaries of this thread Quote
Maude Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 This has been around for a while now but is still impressive, even if you hate ukuleles. 2 Quote

dudewheresmybass Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 I saw a band in the late eighties/ early nineties called detritus. they used to do their version of help in a post Metallica thrash kind of style. Unfortunately it isn’t held for posterity on YouTube 😢 It was thoroughly enjoyable though. Quote

KevL Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 Heard this on the radio last night, first time for ages, not the worst-ever cover of a song... Quote

KevL Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 Fair point. I'm pretty sure I knew that it wasn't a Beatles' original but my memory failed me. Thanks for keeping me right. Quote

That said, most of the versions posted above are such complete and utter **** that I am genuinely staggered that anyone would waste a few electrons on posting them anywhere except to Trump supporters they're trying to wind up. I guess you would be including the Pixies version of "Honey Pie" (which I posted) in that statement I do genuinely love the Pixies version.......but had never heard the Beatles version until 5 minutes before posting here. Can't say I'm that keen on the Beatles version, but I guess if you like the Beatles version then the Pixies version would sound bad. 1 Quote
