JohnFitzgerald
It's a very long time since I had a P bass and now that I'm getting older, the yearning for a simple old fashioned traditional P bass is getting stronger. Has anyone tried one of these ? http://www.basscentre.com/bass-collection-detroit-bass/bass-collection-detroit-bass-solar-flare.html There are worse choices of bass to have a hankering for, there isn't exactly a shortage. Another question. Sunburst or Fiesta Red ?
ezbass
More expensive, but a big jump in quality, is the Maruszczyk Jake and there is a used one at The Gallery. OK, full disclosure, this is actually mine on commission sale. https://thebassgallery.com/collections/bass/products/marusczyk-jake-4-l And fiesta red, all day long; Pino-tastic!
JohnFitzgerald
I'd seen it. It looks very nice.

TheGreek
The choice of good P basses nowadays is huge - how anybody can choose is beyond me... As a recent convert to G&L and Lakland I can recommend the build quality.

Can't comment of G&L but the Lakland 55-01 I've been using is very nice. i don't have the bar set very high here in terms of cost. I already have some really nicer basses so don't want to take the mickey.
Munurmunuh
The G&L p-bass, the LB-100, is £450, £50 less than that Bass Centre model https://www.andertons.co.uk/brands/gl-guitars/g-l-tribute-lb-100-bass-in-olympic-white-3-ply-black-pickguard-vintage-tint-gloss-neck-with-brazilian-cherry-fingerboard

cocco
I've not played the Detroit but I have played the blockhead bass and the Guy Pratt one, both were amazing. If you're looking for an inexpensive Precision the current crop of squier CV are worth consideration too. Definitely sunburst.
ezbass
As much as I’m all for pushing my own sale, this just appeared in the FS section.
JohnFitzgerald
Is there something I'm not understanding regarding the price of this one compared to new ? (Whilst I'm on, I experimented with my Jaydee today in passive mode. On the neck pickup, it really does do that sound quite well. I guess I'd still like the simplicity of a P bass though.) Kevsy71
I can strongly recommend the Bass Centre Bruce Thomas Profile, both with its stock roundwounds or La Bella flats. Superb playability and pickup! http://www.basscentre.com/british-bass-masters/bruce-thomas-profile.html

TheLowDown
Glarry have a P bass for around £78 if you want to get your feet wet. I've considered it recently but the chunky neck puts me off, and it has some neck dive which I'm not keen about. Should be ok with a wide strap though. The discontinued first edition (made in China) were particularly good and some say a future classic. The later/current ones (made in Indonesia) are still pretty good. I have one of the current ones and like it a lot.
Munurmunuh
In the Bass Centres collection, this one caught my eye for having a 40mm nut, halfway between a J neck and the usual modern P neck Bass Collection Power Bass
JohnFitzgerald
Looks like I have a deal locally for a an Indonesian PJ which isn't quite what I had in mind, but it's low commitment and should keep me on the right site of the steering committee who already knows that there are 4 basses hanging on the wall, so...
diskwave
Indonesian? If its a Vintage Modified P with the Duncan PU's then you are in for a treat. I have two, one which I will never sell.
Grahambythesea
It looks like Bass Collection have finally listened to the criticism of Bassists and changed their dreadful logo, at least on the Detroit and Profile models.
walshy
P basses are great, I think I have 15 🤪 All the same but different. Love them all!

I'm interested in any improvements that are being made to basses, amps and cabs. With 1 Jazz and 1 P bass and I'm not looking for anything at the moment. . . . . . well maybe another Lull P5 with rounds! Edited January 30, 2021 by chris_b spelling!!
