Got back in touch with the friend who introduced me to bass by lending me his precision(!)

He has a severe nickel allergy, so it goes unplayed these days šŸ˜ž

Unfortunately , even stainless strings contain a lot of nickel, but I was wondering is coated strings might be a solution and if so, which would be the best brand to suggest?

La Bella White Nylon's are really amazing, very low tension too. So use the 760 series as it's the highest tension. The core is stainless steel.

I use Status tapewounds - available in 40 and 45 gauge and at around Ā£20 they're significantlyĀ less expensive thanĀ the competition, however when I last spoke to Dawn they only had medium scale - fine for 2+2, but not 4 inline.

A very little mentioned string which I really like is the Fender 9120 nylon tapewound. They feel and sound quite different from a regularlar tapewound, very roundwound in feel and very bright.Ā

Another option may be Ernie Ball Cobalt wrapped flats and round wounds? Iā€™ve got the flats on a couple of basses and love them as they have almost that round wound zing.
