uncle psychosis
Hey all, Whats the collected wisdom on the best value sub £500 jazz models out there? Is Squier Classic Vibe where its at or are there better things out there? I also quite like the look of the Squier Contemporary Series - not convinced by the odd pickups on the active ones though. Cato
I'll be the first to suggest Sire. Most are active but the V5 is a passive Jazz for around £400.
Lozz196
The Squier VM77 & VM70s are worth a look, and are under £400.
Grahambythesea
Spector Coda.
Mudpup
I think you'd have to check out a Sire V7. It does a great 'normal' jazz thing and then you have the preamp as well. Lovely neck too. Edited January 20, 2021 by Mudpup
Burns-bass
I found the Sire to be ok. But I’d recommend a Fender Player Jazz.
TheGreek
Personally I'd look at PJs - I'm finding much richer tones from mine..
jezzaboy
That newish Paranormal Jazz is superb. Great build quality, simply the best Squier I have owned. The looks are a bit quirky and its not a lightweight but for around £360, far better than a Classic Vibe model. The Paranormal is made in China and the CV in Indonesia. Check out Lobsters review for he speaketh the truth!

I bought the white one which looks better to me.
Jonesy
I have a G&L JB Tribute that is worth a look. I picked it up for £320 last year and it's a fantastic bass. G&L's have been creeping up in price since though and they're about £450 now. The Sire's Mudpup suggested are def worth a look too.
