Jimothey
I've got an old crappy guitar flat headstock neck that I thought I'd try and convert it to angled one? Here's what I've come up with....... I first cut the neck near the nut at a 22.5° angle Then cut the headstock back to a 5° angle I'm probably going to dowel the joint and add a bit of a volute on the bottom to give it some extra strength but I think it will work?? 👍🏻 Edited January 25, 2021 by Jimothey
BassTool
Interesting project Jim, I certainly know who'll approve of the volute 🤭 Edited January 25, 2021 by BassTool
Jimothey
I thought I'd give it a go as I'm a cheapskate and don't want to spend £100 on a angled headstock neck so if it works I can buy a cheap paddle head neck off ebay for £30 and convert it...... 👍🏻
SpondonBassed
I'd say it's a brave experiment but one you've got to try to find out. If it works it would make Gibson look daft(er). @BassTool, I'm sure I don't know what you mean... Heeheehee
TheGreek
Scary just thinking about it... I'll watch through my fingers...
Stub Mandrel
Use steel rod, not wooden dowels.

HazBeen
You could also route 2 channels and insert bits of wood that run from the neck, across the joint, into the headstock. A lighter option There is very little wood left as is, although a good glue up is stronger than wood, you will need to strengthen.
SpondonBassed
Put two volutes on it!
MoonBassAlpha
I know it's a bit late now you've cut wood, but isn't that a rather extreme headstock angle, or are you making it into a bass lute?
Jimothey
This is just a test run to see if it will work so I'm not really bothered about the angle at the mo but the angle is 14° like my Ibby neck 👍🏻
MoonBassAlpha
I didn’t quite read the picture text properly, that makes sense to me now. With this sort of thing, it's worth bearing in mind that Gibson guitar headstock breakages probably account for 90 percent of all across all makes and brands.
