casapete
21 minutes ago, lowdown said: Yes, Phil Mulford along with Mike Smith on Drums. I too thought the Rhythm section and Orchestra were very good. I wasn't sure about the vocals either. Pitchy at times and a bit twee (IMO, of course). To be fair, I thought the weakest vocalist was the first guy on, in the red jacket ( sorry, didn’t catch his name) - sounded a bit too musical theatre for me, and as you say a bit pitchy. The others were good to amazing, especially the lady who sang at the Northern Soul Orchestrated Prom last year. The backing vocalists were okay, but had one or two moments where it sounded like one of them was actually singing some wrong notes. Overall though, I really enjoyed it and just love hearing a big band / orchestra doing such great stuff.
Lozz196
Currently on is Guy Garvey: From The Vaults 1983. Listening to these songs takes me back, my formative year, the one where I left school & started work, bought my first motorbike, discovered girls & beer, developed new friendships other than people from school including meeting other musicians and trying to set up new bands. Cliff Edge
Found this on YouTube yesterday, Fats Domino and his band playing Jambalaya live. Those guys were amazing, I have no idea who any of them were. The bass player never gives up and the sax player is extraordinary. And then there’s the guy dancing about in front. Show business at it’s best. Edit. Lee Allen and Walter Kimble, both amazing sax players Edited October 20 by Cliff Edge 3

I saw Fats in Sheffield in 1995, and he put on a great show despite being in poor health. His band were wonderful, as were Little Richard’s who was also on the bill with Chuck Berry. There was a bit of fallout wasn’t there? Naturally she got the credit. It happens… I knew the keyboard player on Sinead O’Connor’s first album who was sacked as soon as she broke through. He went on to be Art Editor of Radio Times, so a happy ending there.

I’ve always liked Sheryl right from that album onwards. I think her Glastonbury appearance in 2019 made me realise how much I still do. Her band are up there as one of the best IMO, especially guitarists Peter Stroud and Audley Freed. - both amazing players.

diskwave
I havent seen any specials live stuff for years then last nite was reminded why I always preferred them to Madness, just great, tho the camera work seemed a bit grainy.

Saw the Specials twice - once in 1980, bottom of the bill at a three-band show when they could barely all squeeze on stage, and again a few years ago at a Dammers-less reunion. Quite a unique band, even then. But in 2020 the fights were more likely in the audience than on stage!
